Valves

Valve Adjustment

The valves in an 1100 engine should make a little noise. As they wear the tolerances get tighter and the valves will quiet down. Quiet valves should raise an alarm that they need adjustment.

Engine should be cold when adjusting valves (to match the setting specs!). What does this mean? Cold means around 80 degrees or less. After running, it means 2 to 4 hours of cool down - 4 to be safe!

Factory spec: NOTE: THESE SPECS ARE IN MM - NOT INCHES!

INTAKE: 0.07 to 0.12 mm (0.10mm would be ideal) SAE: 0.003 to 0.005 (0.004 would be ideal)

EXHAUST: 0.12 to 0.17 mm (0.15mm would be ideal) SAE: 0.005 to 0.007 (0.006 would be ideal)

In a pinch you can use fastenal part # 1166865 buna-n-70 #230 o-ring instead of the Yamaha 93210-62446-00 which is pre-formed, and molded to fit.

Felpro # 35617 should also be a substitue fit.
