Fender Swap

You can replace the rear fender of your V Star 1100 Custom with a rear fender from an 1100 Classic. There are just a couple things that you need to be aware of. Unfortunately, there is no easy way for an easy swap the other way - going to a Custom rear fender on a Classic. The Classic subframe is has rounded cross members and the Custom has flatter ones. Basically the subrame crossmembers would need to be removed to facilitate a Custom fender.

  • · The rear mount of the riders seat is different between the 2 models and the top curve of the fenders is different enough that you will see some fairly obvious gaps if you keep the Custom seat. A classic seat will bolt right up, or if you want to reuse your Custom seat, you can fabricate a new bracket.
  • · The rear pillion stud that sticks though the fender is in a different location on the Classic. If you plan on using the pillion you will need to drill a new hole in the proper location and fill in the old one.
  • · The fender eyebrows are a little different, in that the ones from your Custom will not fit the Classic fender exactly the same. Of course, you can just leave them off if you prefer.
  • · You will need to add a couple spacers to the inside of the Classic fender as it is just a little wider. I used 2 - 3/8” body washers on each of the 4 side mounting points and that took up the gap perfectly.
  • · You will have to remove the helmet lock as the Classic fender is deeper so there is not enough clearance for it to sit all the way down. -Sick Mick
