As soon as the Arab Spring Revolutions started, I immediately took their side and documented their events, one after one and step by step, with poems and articles. My first poetry collection book ‘A Journey Around the Arab-Spring Revolutions’ was published both in Arabic and English on 12/2/2014 by Xlibris. My second poetry collection book ‘The Chronicles of the Syrian Revolution’ was published in English on 7/25/2017 also by Xlibris. Both books were edited by R. B. Welsh Sr. The Arabic version of the second book was published on 8/24/2017 by Omagate. These two books unleash the power of Poetry in fighting tyranny, and they are full of metaphor, satire and wit. Omagate also published my short stories book ‘From the Daily Life of a Syrian Citizen’ in Arabic on 10/8/2018. The book narrates 24 stories that I experienced myself under the Dictatorship regime while living in Syria.
Beside my books, I was involved in a lot of related activities. In 2011, I was invited to recite some of my poetry in celebrating the triumphs of both the Tunisian and Egyptian Revolutions that took place in the Arab American Cultural Center in Houston on 1/23/2011 and 2/14/2011. In 2011 and 2012, I organized three poetry recital events in support of the uprisings in the Middle East. The first one ‘Poetry as a witness to the Revolutions’ took place in the Arab American Cultural Center in Houston on 5/15/2011. The second one ‘The Arab Revolutions in the Eyes of Poetry, Music and Cartoons’ and also took place in the Arab American Cultural Center in Houston four months later on 9/18/2011. The third one ‘The Syrian Revolution in the Eyes of the Arab Poets’ took place in Hotel Indigo in Houston on 7/8/2012. I also was invited into National Conferences in Detroit on 11/19/2011, Washington DC on 3/17/2012, and Loss Angeles on 6/1/2013, to recite some of my poetry and was introduced as ‘The Poet of the Arabic Revolutions’.
The Syrian Community in Houston established an organization called Texans For Free Syria to support the struggle in the Homeland. They started marching every Sunday in one of Houston most crowded crossing, Westhiemer and Post Oak, holding the Independence flag and photos showing the crimes of the Assad regime against civilians. I participated in these marches every Sunday in 2011 and 2012 and recited poetry.
I was invited by Houston Community College to shed lights on what was going on in the Middle East. My first lecture ‘A Journey around the Arab-Spring Revolutions’ was on 10/17/2012. The second one ‘Why the Syrian Revolution is taking that long’ was on 4/11/2013. The third one ‘The Arab-Spring; Five Years later’ was on 4/16/2016. My political works in 8 years exceeds 300 between poems, plays, articles and live events.
Taking a break from political writing, I decided to put a different kind of poetry collection in a new book, and so came ‘Hearts, Tears & the Journey of Life’ on 9/14/2018 by Xlibris in Arabic and English. The book covers three subjects: Love, Lamenting and Meditation, Middle Eastern style, and was rhymed and edited by HHC English Professor J. C. Salazar.
Noticing the negative effects the social media, the smart phones and other electronics are having over the children drew my attention and alarmed me. Therefore I decided not to look the other direction, but to take the initial and do something about it, and that was how my new and first children story book ‘A Tale of Seven Phones’ came to life; it was published on 9/18/2020 by Erin Go Bragh. The book was developed and edited by the award-winning author Kathleen J. Shields and came in four versions: Chapter book for ages 10 to 12, Picture Book and Coloring Book for ages from 7 to 10, E-Book for down load.
My poetry in general is Free Style and a kind of Poetic Prose, which does not follow the Arabic poetry rhythms of Al-Faraheedy. It colors paintings where imagination competes with the pictures, rhymes, and meanings and each tries to draw the attention and wins importance. And here comes the word to manage that competition and guarantees an equal chance for all.

I started showing strong interest in reading stories in Elementary School, in Damascus, Syria, thanks to the extra rich school library. Then I moved fast trying to imitate and develop these stories by writing something similar. I still remember how the Essay Class teacher there used to chose my essays to be read in all other classrooms as an example of the ‘Perfect Essay’, and encourage the class to learn from them. I also still remember one particular teacher who did never believe that I was the real writer of those essays, and wrote to my parents encouraging them to let me depend on myself and to quit writing the essays for me!
My interest in reading continued and increased, and by the time I graduated from High School, I finished reading the best of the worlds literature starting with the English (Dickens, Bronte, Bernard Show, Shakespeare, etc.), and ending with the Russian (Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Pushkin, Gorky, Pasternak, etc.), going in between through the French (Dumas, Hugo, Saint Pierre, Vern, etc), and the American (Hemingway, Twain, Mitchell, etc). That was in addition to the jewels of the Arabic literature of stories and novels (The Arabian Nights, Ibn Al- Mukaffa’s Kalila and Dumna, Al-Manfalooty, Taha Husain, Tawfeeq Al-Hakeem, Zachariah Tamer, Abbas Al-Akkad, Mohammad Al-Maghoot, etc.), the old time great poets (Antara, Jareer, Al-Farazdaq, Abu Firras, Al-Mutanabee, Al-Buhturi, Ibn Zadoun, Ibn Al Rumi, etc.) and the modern ones (Nizar Kabbani, Ahmad Shaouqi, Hafez Ibrahim, Al-Jawahiri, Bishara Al-Khoury, Ibrahim Tukan, Ahmad Matar, Al-Shabi, etc.)
During my College Years, I started having more interest than before in poetry and the writing of letters, thoughts and meditation, but everything I wrote was mostly romantic and emotional. I read, during that time, the works of a different kind of writers such as: the French Camus, Moliere and Russo, the Germans Gotha and Nietzsche, the Spanish Cervantes, the Italian Dante, the Greek epic poet Homer, and the Sumerian epic of Gilgamesh that still has an unknown author. I also started being interested in the comparative literature.
After several dangerous encounters with the Assad Dictatorship regime, I decided that Syria is not a safe place to live in, and therefore I moved into the US during the Eighties and started my life from scratch. I began paying more attention to the current events of the world, thanks to the free media and journalism. I started rediscovering the valuable lessons history gives to those who are interested in learning and knowing. I started rereading the military campaigns: from Nebuchadnezzar, through Alexander the Great and Hannibal, to those of the Romans and Persians. Then I looked deep into the rise of the Arabs who reached China to the east and Spain to the west, then the campaigns of the Crusaders, the Mongols and those of Bonaparte. I started rereading how and why the Rashid Caliphs, then the Dynasties of the Omayyad’s, Abbacies’, Fatimies, Aoubies, Mamlukies and Ottomans rose to power then vanished. Read how a country like Britain managed to fool the Arabs by pretending to be helping them getting rid of the Ottomans occupation just to occupy their countries, along with France.
I began writing series of Historical Epical Poems in 2008 with ‘Arabic Memories from Abroad’, which talked about the Arab World as one united nation without boundaries or borders. It highlighted the history of the Arabs and sharpened their morals. It was published in different cultural magazines in Damascus, Syria.
Then came the second, ‘Damascus, the Gate of History’, which analyses the civilization, historic, and touristic importance of my hometown city of Damascus. The poem release and recital was first hosted by the Syrian American Club (SAC) in Houston on 05/30/2009, and then was published on the web site of the Syrian Culture Center in Paris, France, and then posted on YouTub and other sites.
After that came the third, ‘Jerusalem, the Wound of History’, which narrated the series of catastrophes, sufferings, and injustices the city experienced through its long history, and also exposed the religious importance of the city to all the three divine religions. The poem release and recital was first hosted by the Arab American Cultural Center (ACC) in Houston on 10/29/2009, and then was published on the web site of the Syrian Culture Center in Paris, France, and then posted on YouTube and other sites. Then came the fourth, ‘Syria Talks about Herself’, which reveals the relation between Syria in one side and History and Civilizations in the other side. The poem was recited in front of live audience in Byblos Banquet in Houston on 5/23/2010, and then was published on the web site of the Syrian Ministry of Tourism in Damascus, and then posted on YouTube and other sites. After that, I added more verses to my first poem, ‘Arabic Memories from Abroad’ and recited in front of live audience in Al-Ameer Banquet in Houston on 10/20/2020.
I was preparing a new Poetry Event titled ‘Let’s Remember the Giants of the Arabic Poetry of the Twenties’ Century’, but the Arab-Spring Revolutions were faster where the people of five Arab Countries, sick and tired of their dictators, decided to start a Quest for Freedom, Dignity and Democracy.
The Tunisian Revolution started it in 12/17/2010 and ended on 1,14,2011 when the Dictator, Bin Ali, fled the country. Inspired by the Tunisian, the Egyptian Revolution started on 1/25/2011 and ended on 2/11/2011 when the Dictator, Mubarak, resigned. The same day the Egyptian Dictator resigned, 2/11/2011, the Yemeni Revolution started and there was a try to assassinate the Yemeni Dictator, Saleh, who was badly injured, but survived. He finally resigned and left the country on 1/23/2012, leaving a tribal war behind him. Inspired by all that, the Libyan people revolted on 2/17/2011 against their Dictator, Gaddafi, who was ambushed and killed by the rebels on 10/20/2011while he was trying to flee. Inspired by all that, the Syrian people also decided to follow and they rebelled against their Dictator, Bashar Assad, who inherited power from his father in 2000. The Syrian Revolution started on 3/15/2011. But because of the World political alliances, protocols and crossed interests, and also because of the full scale military interference of Iran and Russia to his side, and finally because of the division of the political and military factions opposing and fighting Assad, he managed to stay in power until now. The price was destroying and dividing the country and turning half of the population of twenty four million into refugees; it became so far the worst humanitarian calamity in the 21st century.

بدأت بالإهتمام بقرائة القصص والمجلات المصورة منذ مرحلة الدراسة الإبتدائية، شكرا لمكتبة مدرستنا الغنية بها آنذاك. ثم إنتقلت بعد ذلك سريعا لمحاولة تقليد هذه القصص بكتابة أعمال من نفس الروح والطابع. ومازلت أذكر حينها كيف كان أساتذة مادة التعبير يختارون مواضيعي لتقرأ في بقية الصفوف كمثال للمواضيع النموذجية ويشجعون الطلاب على التعلم منها. أتذكر في هذا السياق كيف أن أحد هؤلاء الأساتذة لم يصدق بأني كاتب هذه المواضيع أصلا فأرسل بملاحظة خطية إلى أهلي ينصحهم فيها أن يتركوني أعتمد على نفسي ويتوقفوا عن كتابة وظائفي.
إستمر إهتمامي بالقراءة بعد ذلك، ولم تنته مرحلة الدراسة الثانوية إلا وكنت قد إنتهيت من قرائة عيون الأدب العالمي إبتداء بالأدب الإنكليزي (ديكينز، برونتي، برناردشو وغيرهم بالإضافة لكافة أعمال شكسبير) وإنتهاء بالأدب الروسي (توليستوي، ديستوفيسكي، بوشكن، جوركي، باسترناك، وغيرهم) ومرورا بالفرنسي (دوماس، هوغو، سان بيير، فيرن، وغيرهم) والأمريكي (هيمينغواي، توين، ميتشل، وغيرهم) وكذلك جواهر الأدب العربي من القصص (ألف ليلة، ابن المقفع كليلة ودمنة، المنفلوطي، طه حسين، توفيق الحكيم، زكريا تامر، عباس العقاد، محمد الماغوط وغيرهم) والشعر القديم (عنترة، جرير، الفرزدق، أبو فراس، المتنبي، البحتري، ابن زيدون، ابن الرومي وغيرهم) والمعاصر (نزار قباني، أحمد شوقي، حافظ إبراهيم، الجواهري، بشارة الخوري، إبراهيم طوقان، أحمد مطر، الشابي وغيرهم)
في المرحلة الجامعية بدأت أهتم بالشعر أكثر من قبل بالإضافة لأدب الرسائل والتأملات، وكانت أعمالي بشكل عام في ذلك الوقت رومانسية وعاطفية.
وقد تعرفت في هذه المرحلة على أعمال لكتاب من أنواع مختلفة مثل موليير وروسو الفرنسيين وغوتة و نيتشه الألمانيين وسيرفانتيس الإسباني ودانتي الإيطالي وهوميروس الإغريقي صاحب الإلياذة، وكذلك على ملحمة جلجامش السومرية المجهولة الكاتب، كما بدأت أهتم بمواضيع الأدب المقارن.
بعد تخرجي من الجامعة في بداية الثمانينيات، وبعد عدة مواجهات مع نظام الأسد الديكتاتوري كادت تودي بحياتي، وجدت أن سورية ليست بمكان آمن للحياة، فسافرت إلى الولايات المتحدة حيث بدأت حياتي من الصفر. بدأت هناك وبفضل الإعلام الحر بالاهتمام أكثر بما يجري من الأحداث في العالم وفي بلادنا. وبدأت أعود لأكتشف الدروس الثمينة التي يعطيها التاريخ لمن يرغب في معرفتها. فعدت لأقرأ تاريخ الحملات العسكرية من نبوخذ نصر والإسكندر المكدوني وهانيبال، إلى الحملات الرومانية والفارسية، ثم صعود نجم العرب ووصولهم إلى الصين شرقا والأندلس غربا، إلى الحملات الصليبية والمغولية وحملة نابليون. عدت لأقرأ كيف صعدت الخلافات الراشدة ثم السلالة الأموية والعباسية والفاطمية والأيوبية والمملوكية والعثمانية ثم كيف زالت. ثم كيف إستطاعت إنكلترا أن تخدع العرب بمساعدتهم على التخلص من العثمانيين لتحل مكانهم هي وشريكتها فرنسا.
بدأت سلسلة قصائدي التاريخية بقصيدة (خواطر عربية من المهجر) في نهاية عام 2008 والتي تتحدث عن الوطن العربي كوطن واحد بلا حواجز ولا حدود وذلك في إطار من إستعراض للتاريخ وشحذ الهمم . وقد نشرت القصيدة في عدة مجلات ثقافية منوعة في دمشق وهيوستن.
ثم أتت قصيدة (دمشق بوابة التاريخ) التي تستعرض الأهمية التاريخية والحضارية والسياحية للمدينة التي نشأت فيها. وقد استضاف إلقائها الأول النادي السوري الأمريكي في هيوستن وذلك يوم السبت 30 آيار/مايس 2009 . نشرت فيما بعد على موقع المركز الثقافي السوري في باريس/ فرنسا.
ثم أتت قصيدة (القدس جرح التاريخ) التي تستعرض ما مرت به هذه المدينة من النكبات والآلام والمظالم عبر تاريخها الطويل مع إستعراض لأهميتها لأصحاب كافة الديانات السماوية الثلاث. تم إلقائها الأول في قاعة المركز الثقافي العربي الأمريكي في هيوستن ضمن احتفاليات القدس عاصمة الثقافة العربية لعام 2009 وذلك في يوم الخميس 29 تشرين أول / أوكتوبر 2009. ونشرت فيما بعد على موقع المركز الثقافي السوري في باريس/ فرنسا.
بعدها أتت قصيدة (سورية تتحدث عن نفسها) وهي، كقصيدة دمشق، تستعرض المكانة التاريخية والحضارية والسياحية لسورية وتم إلقائها في قاعة صالة بيبلوس في هيوستن بتاريخ 23 أيار 2010
قد قمت بعد ذلك بإضافة العديد من الأبيات الجديدة لقصيدتي الملحمية الأولى (خواطر عربية من المهجر) لتحضيرها للإلقاء في أمسية خاصة بها في قاعة صالة الأمير في هيوستن حيث تم ذلك بتاريخ 10 تشرين الأول/أوكتوبر 2010، والأمسية كبقية سابقاتها معروضة على موقع يوتوب وكذلك على موقعي الخاص والعشرات من المواقع الادبية المرئية والصوتية على صفحات النت.
باشرت بعد ذلك بالتحضير لأمسية أدبية مختلفة عن السابقة دعوتها بأمسية (تعالوا نتذكر عمالقة الشعر العربي للقرن العشرين) أستعرض فيها أمام جمهور المغتربين شعر المقاومة والوطن والغزل عند شوقي (مصر) والشابي (تونس) والجواهري (العراق) والخوري (لبنان) وقباني (سورية) والتل (الأردن). ولكن وقبل تحديد موعد الأمسية بأيام، حصل الزلزال التونسي الذي هز الأمة العربية والعالم معلنا بداية ثورات الربيع العربي، فكان على كل شئ آخر أن ينتظر. وما بدأ كزلزال في تونس، لم يلبث أن تحول إلى طوفان ليمتد إلى مصر وليبيا واليمن وليصل بعد ذلك إلى بلدي سورية مطالباً بالحرية والكرامة والديمقراطية.
بدأت الثورة التونسية 17 كانون الأول، ديسيمبر 2010 عقب إحراق محمد البوعزيزي نفسه من الفقر والظلم والقهر، لتنتهي في 14 كانون الثاني، جانيوري 2011 بهروب الديكتاتور بن علي خارج البلاد. لحقتها الثورة المصرية سريعاً في 25 كانون الثاني، جانيوري 2011 لتنتهي خلال اسبوعين في 11 شباط، فيبروري 2011 باستقالة الديكتاتور حسني مبارك. في نفس ذلك اليوم، 11 شباط، فيبروري 2011، بدأت الثورة اليمنية حيث تعرض بعدها ديكتاتور اليمن علي عبد الله صالح لمحاولة إغتيال نجا منها بإصابات خطيرة ليقدم إستقالته في 23 كانون الثاني، جانيوري 2012 ليغادر البلاد ويترك خلفه حرباً قبلية. متأثرين بتلك الثورات، ثار الليبيون على في 17 شباط، فيبروري 2011 على الديكتاتور معمر القذافي والذي حاول لاحقاً الفرار خارج البلاد عن طريق الصحراء، فوقع في فخ نصبه له الثوار وتم قتله في 20 تشرين الأول، أوكتوبر 2011. بدأت الثورة السورية في 15 آذار، مارش 2011 ضد الديكتاتور بشار الأسد الذي ورث الحكم عن أبيه عام 2000. ولكن وبسبب التحالفات والتفاهمات وتقاطع المصالح الدولية من جهة، و التدخل العسكري الايراني والروسي الغير محدود من جهة ثانية، وتشرذم وانقسام المعارضة السياسية والعسكرية وارتهانها لجهات خارجية، استطاع الأسد البقاء في الحكم إلى اليوم. أما الثمن فكان تدمير وتقسيم البلد وتهجير نصف السكان البالغ 24 مليون لتجعل من النكبة السورية الأسوأ في القرن الواحد والعشرين.
وقد وقفت مع تلك الثورات واحدة بعد واحدة، ورافقتها خطوة بخطوة ووثقتها حدثاً بحدث بالشعر والمقالات. قامت دار النشر الأمريكية "إكسليبرس" بطبع مجموعتي الشعرية الأولى "رحلة حول ثورات الربيع العربي" باللغتين العربية والانكليزية في 2 كانون الأول، ديسيمبر 2014. كما قامت نفس دار النشر بطبع مجموعتي الثانية "مذكرات الثورة السورية" في 27 تموز، جولاي 2017 حيث قام بتدقيق النسخة الانليزية صديقي آر. بي. ولش. النسخة العربية من المجموعة الثانية قامت بنشرها دار (أوماغيت)، والتي قامت لاحقاً في 8 أوكتوبر 2018 بنشر مجموعة قصص قصيرة لي بعنوان "من الحياة اليومية لمواطن سوري: مهداة لأصحاب مقولة كنا عايشين وماشي حالنا" وتحتوي على 24 قصة لحوادث جرت معي شخصياً خلال حياتي في سورية.
بالاضافة لهذه الكتب، شاركت في العديد من المناسبات بحضور جمهور حي ألقيت فيها مختارات من قصائدي الثورية. فقد دعيت للمشاركة في احتفالي انتصار الثورتين التونسية والمصرية في المركز الثقافي العربي الأمريكي في هيوستن في 23 كانون الثاني، جانيوري و14 شباط، فيبروري 2011 على الترتيب. كما قمت في عامي 2011 و2012 بتنظيم ثلاث أمسيات شعرية وثقافية تكريماً لثورات الربيع العربي. أقمت الأمسية الأولى "الشعر وشهادته على الثورات" في المركز الثقافي العربي الأمريكي في هيوستن في 15 أيار، ماي 2011 والثانية "الثورات العربية في عيون الشعر والموسيقا والكاريكاتير" في نفس المركز في 18 ايلول، سيبتمبر 2011 والثالثة "الثورة السورية في عيون الشعراء العرب" في صالة فندق إنديغو في هيوستن في 8 تموز، جولاي 2012. كما ودعيت للمشاركة في أمسيات لدعم الثورة السورية في ديترويت في 19 تشرين الثاني 2011 وفي العاصمة واشنطن في 17 آذار، مارش 2012 وأخيراً في لوس أنجلوس في 1 حزيران، جون 2013 حيث ألقيت أيضاً مختارات من قصائدي وتم تقديمي بلقب "شاعر الثورات العربية".
كان أحرار الجالية السورية في هيوستن قد شكلوا خلال ذلك منظمة أطلقوا عليها اسم (تكساس من أجل سورية الحرة)، وبدؤا بتنظيم مظاهرات اسبوعية كل يوم أحد في أكثر تقاطعات هيوستن ازدحاما (ويست هايمر وبوست أوك) يرفعون فيها أعلام الاستقلال وصور جرائم النظام السوري. وقد شاركت في معظم هذه المظاهرات وقدمت من خلالها العديد من القصائد.
قامت الجامعة المحلية في هيوستن بدعوتي ثلاث مرات لالقاء محاضرات أشرح فيها للطلاب الأسباب السياسية والاقتصادية لنشوب ثورات الربيع العربي. كانت الأول بعوان كتابي الأول "رحلة حول ثورات الربيع العربي" وأقيتها في 17 تشرين الأول، أوكتوبر 2012 والثانية بعنوان "لماذا طالت الثورة السورية؟" في 11 نيسان، إبريل 2013 والأخيرة بعنوان "خمس سنوات مابعد الربيع العربي" في 16 نيسان، إبريل 2016. هذا وتجاوزت أعمالي السياسية حتى عام 2018 الثلاثمئة عمل مابين قصيدة ومسرحية ومقال وأمسية بحضور جمهور حي.
قررت في عام 2018 أن أعطي نفسي إستراحة من الأعمال السياسية والتي لم أكتب غيرها منذ انطلاق الربيع العربي عام 2010 فقررت نشر مختارات من قصائدي اللاسياسية فأتى كتابي "قلوب ودموع ورحلة الحياة" في 14 ايلول، سيبتمبر 2018 والذي طبعته دار "إكسليبرس" باللغتين العربية والانكليزية. وتتناول قصائد الكتاب ثلاثة مواضيع مختلفة: الحب والرثاء والتأمل بنكهة شرق أوسطية، وقد تم تدقيق الترجمة الانكيزية وإضافة القافية لها من قبل بروفيسور اللغة الانكيزية في كلية هيوستن جي. سي. سالازار.
لاحظت كغيري من الآباء الآثار السلبية التي تتركها منصات التواصل الاجتماعي والهواتف الذكية وغيرها من الالكترونيات على الأطفال، فقررت أن لاأتجاهل هذه السلبيات وأقدم عملاً يسلط الضوء عليها ويحث على إيجاد حلول عملية لها. وهكذا تمت ولادة تجربتي الأولى مع كتب الأطفال "قصة سبعة تلفونات" حيث تم النشر في 18 ايلول، سيبتمبر 2020 بواسطة دار "إرن جو برا" باللغة الانكليزية حصراً. وتم التدقيق والتعديل من قبل كاتبة قصص الأطفال الأمريكية كاثلين جي. شيلدز وصدر بأربعة نسخ: نسخة القراءة لأعمار من 10 إلى 12، نسخة الصور لأعمار من 7 إلى 10، نسخة التلوين لأعمار من 5 إلى 7، والنسخة الالكترونية للتنزيل من الانترنت.
قصائدي بشكل عام عبارة عن نثر شعري أو شعر حر، لاتلتزم بأبحر الفراهيدي، ولكنها ترسم لوحات يتنافس فيها الخيال مع الصور والقوافي والمعاني على لفت الإنتباه والفوز بمركز الصدارة، ويأتي دور الكلمة لتجعل هذا التنافس عادلا ولتوزع الأدوار والألوان فيما بين الجميع بالتساوي.
