THIS PLOT WAS ENCLOSED IN 1901 BY
DESCENDANTS OF JOHN GARDNER,
AND PLACED IN CHARGE OF DIAL ROCK
CHAPTER D.A.R.
JOHN GARDNER WAS CAPTURED AT
EXETER, JULY 2ND 1778, BY INDIANS WHO
BURNED HIM TO DEATH AT PAINTED POST
ELIZABETH MUMFORD, HIS WIFE, AND
THEIR SON JOHN ARE BURIED HERE.
FIVE OF THEIR CHILDREN WERE
WITH HER IN THE FORTS, AND
MUMFORD, THEIR ELDEST SON,
WAS KILLED IN THE BATTLE DURING
THE WYOMING MASSACRE.
According to Gardiner-Gardner Genealogy complied by Clara Gardner Miller and John Milton Stanton, ©1937 p 97,
Angeline Gardner Young (daugther of John and Rosina Harris Gardner, granddaughter of Richard and Lydia Chapman Gardner) was "instrumental in preserving from destruction the graves in the old Gardner Cemetery in Ransom, PA., and bore most of the expense of erecting the handsome iron fence which surrounds the cemetery."

Location of Cemetery:
This cemetery is located between the Susquehanna River and Main Street in Ransom, Lackawanna Co., PA
If you are on Main Street next to the Ransom Valley German Church, the cemetery is to the right but not visible from this location.
From Main Street towards Evergreen Road, if you see the electric/phone lines that come from across the river, the cemetery is just to the left.
It is located on the other side of the railroad tracks behind what used to be the Ransom Home. The Ransom Home has been demolished and the land has and is being used for open pit mining.
The houses in the picture above are on the other side of the river. The Susquehanna River is between the trees and the houses.
