Tues Aug 3, 1897
Frank went to Scranton. Apples $2.00 per bbl. pots 75c per bu. Sweet corn $1.00 per hund. Brought 2 bbls flour from McCanns, 5.00 per bbl. One bbl I have paid for.
Wed 4 Aug
Drew to fathers barn here the hill-field rye along Atens line. And fhreshed some with Kresge's rye-beater. This gets all rye in barn - About 3000 sheaves on my ground and fathers. He had a little over 600 sheaves for his third __?_ on him. Took S Vansickle 50 bundles of straw @5c.
Thurs 5 Aug
Rained a part of the forenoon, but cleared up at noon. We finished threshing rye with Kresges rye-beater. We spent about 3 days with it. Threshed about 3000 sheaves.

Sat Aug 7, 1897
John finished cubbing oats in flat meadow by hayhouse. Oats medium length. Hoed our late cabbage by Mr Winters barn. Frank dug potatoes. PM I pulled carots. They are getting all over. At night wife, Kate and I were to Mr Ayers. Got saw that he filed - 25c paid.
Mond 9 Aug
Dug 4 barrels of buckwheat potatoes. Picke 3 bbls of apples. Took into my barn 600 sheaves of oats from flat field meadow by hayhouse. Wrote this morning to W.S. Frace about Mr Hices insurance.. Mr Hice sent check unknown to me. and I sent my check for the same. To night Frace sent my check back with one dollar in money-$10.00. He said he put it in his safe and forgot
to return it. I was up tonight and paid Hice $9.00 all he had on book against me.
Tues 10 Aug
Frank went to Scranton. Potatoes $2.25 pr bbl; Apples $2.00; Sweetcorn 75c per hnd; butter 17c.
I & John __?__ fence till 10 o'clock when we expected to bend oats. Rain began at that time. Cleaned 45 bu of rye after dinner. J D Hopkins came at noon and got the special duplicate of 1 1/2 mills. Cleared away in middle of day but more rain came at night.
Wed 11 Aug
Dug bbl potatoes. Raked oats till noon. Showers which delayed till 3 0'clock. Took father 600 sheaves and brought home 327 from flat meadow by hay house.
Thurs Aug 12, 1897
Finished oats in flat meadow by hay house. Had 2380 sheaves on field - fair length. Took father 600 sheaves. John reaped a part of field by Atens line by woods. Broke pitman of new reaper and quit. Date went to Scranton with __?__ Ward's wife.
Frid 13 Aug
Dug potatoes in back field.. Got about 7 bbls. Three of us dug one half day. John cut in forenoon what was left of oats where he cut yesterday.
Sat 14 Aug
Frank took pots to Scranton. Got 200 per bbl for them at wholesale. Pots are vary small. John and I got in 610 sheaves of oats where he cut yesterday.
Mond 16 Aug
Sent P Corselius "ap" to W S Frace this morning & check $9.75 with it. John took 12 bags to Sickler's for chop. I took __?__ wagon to C Snovers for repairs. Paid him on a/c four (4) dollars. Left potato hooks there to be fixed. Frank took 171 bundles of straw to the Mt P Store for which he is to get 7c per bundle.
Tues 17 Aug
Frank took 80 bundles of rye straw to Scranton, 7c. brought a load of fine manure; unloaded it at the end of berry rows, back of my barn. John cut last field of oats by fathers house; up the road - took in 800 sheaves of oats to my barn and took 240 unbound in fathers.
Wed Aug 18, 1897
John took family with colts to Sunday School picnic at Lake Wynola. The schools from Newton Pres. Baptist & Methodist were there and Bethel from Falls were there too.
Very fine day. Ina Lloyd from WBarre came last night and went with.
Thurs 19 Aug
Worked in oats till 5 o'clock when a shower came. Are nearly done; have about 500 sheaves by fathers. East of Aten's lane. "Milwaukee Band" just starting had a picnic in Petts Grove to raise money to buy horns. Before it ended a hard shower came and they agreed to continue it tomorrow night.
