The New River Valley Mushroom Club

will be having a June walk as part of our year-round Fungi Inventory for

Wildwood Park in Radford, VA

on Saturday, June 16, at 2:30PM

  • We will meet in the parking lot off Main Street, behind the Bank--let me know if you need directions or a Google Map.

  • Please RSVP by email to rebeccahrader@hotmail.com. Let me also get your cell number, if you haven't given it to me before.

  • We RSVP to these walks in Wildwood Park because it is a sensitive, protected area and we must plan the logisitics in order to minimize our impact. This ongoing project we have of inventorying the park for fungi at different times of year is in cooperation with Pathways for Radford and the VA Native Plant Society.

  • Bring field guides and hand lenses, as well as collection baskets and whatever other accoutrements you'd normally have for an outdoor foray. We project 2 hours of exploration and collection and 1-2 hours for identification and documentation. We will try to have "designated collectors" and designated areas for the groups we split into, to avoid unnecessary collection.

  • You can see the species list as it currently stands at http://www.radfordpl.org/wildwood/today/ We doubled the existing Fungi Record in the fall of 2010 and made some significant additions over the course of 2011. Gary Coté from the R.U. Biology Dep't. will be collaborating with us again and adding our results to the Wildwood website.
