Rock Castle Gorge Foray: October 23rd at 1PM

Post date: Oct 3, 2011 9:29:35 PM

We will have a little foray Sunday, October 23rd at 1PM at Rock Castle Gorge, south of Floyd, off Route 8. As of now, it doesn't seem like we would exceed the number (10) of people in a group allowed to collect mushrooms in this Rocky Knob National Recreation Area for identification, without a permit. I do need to know who plans on attending, because if we exceed 10, we need to get a permit for research and then make a report. We can plan a carpool, as usual, let me know if you are interested in this, and from what area because there is very little parking at the bottom of the gorge. Several of us had small Morel hunts here in May 2010, and April 2011 and we had a walk here last November on which we found lots of interesting things, and I hope that if we come there a little earlier, there will be even more to see.

Here is a link to a Google Map, notice that we are meeting at the bottom of Rock Castle Gorge, in the small parking area which is at the end of CC Camp Road, not the top of the Gorge which is on the Parkway. Let me know if you need more specific directions, or if you are coming into the area in some way other than Rt. 8 or the Blue Ridge Parkway.
