WOODLAND SHADE Garden

The pathway through this garden, which will lead you to the Forest Farm, was started in May, 2016. The steps were completed in early 2017, but need some adjustment as we watch how the water tracks and affects one's footing.  Look for additional drainage features to be installed to prevent future trail washouts from major rain events.  It's a work in progress, but we are making slow and steady progress with the native planting.  Many thanks to the Project Challenge kids for their tireless help in mulching and planting !

The plants installed last year are beginning to demonstrate a woodland garden.  Keep watch as additional plants are added, and summer and fall choices begin to bloom.  In the upcoming years as the native shrubs, trees, ferns, and wildflowers grow and spread this will be a special garden - especially in the spring and during hot summer days.

This is about 50 feet from the entry to the Woodland garden looking back toward the parking area. Clearing out standing dead wood, covered with invasive vines, opened up the canopy and is letting a bit more early morning sun into the path area and allowing phlox to be planted on the right side of the photo.

To date we have finished installing the steps to the bottom of area and a small bridge was built to traverse the drainage area.

We are now in the final stretch... heading to connect to the forest farm path.  Of course there will be much more work following that, including planting the area.  If you have any extra plants on our wishlist, please consider donating some... and come help us plant them!

Here's a list of plants we hope to include in our woodland garden.
