Cross Norfolk Trail

This 96-mile walking route across Norfolk from King's Lynn to Great Yarmouth follows the River Nar upstream (on the Nar Valley Way) then the River Wensum and Yare downstream on the Wensum Way, Marriott's Way, Wensum River Parkway and Wherryman's Way.

We had walked most of the Nar Valley Way more than several years before the Cross Norfolk Trail was completed with the opening of the Wensum way in 2013, but we hadn't expected to complete it before retirement. The Coronavirus Pandemic of 2020/21 altered all of that, in creating a walk which we could complete in day walks from home in West Norfolk, albeit with delays caused when the UK or England went into a period of lockdown.

We completed the Nar Valley Way in August 2020 and walked the Wensum Way in September 2020. The next delay was caused mostly by the birth of our grandson Bertie in October 2020, but when rising Coronavirus numbers meant that we could't travel to Wiltshire to see Bertie or to stay in our flat in Milton Keynes, we returned to walk the relevant sections of the Marriott's Way and the Wensum River Parkway in December 2020 and very early January 2021. Then we went back down to lockdown and "stay at home" regulations. It was therefore Easter weekend in early April before were able to start the Wherryman's Way, by which time we were also hoping that the danger of flooding had passed.
