Blogs

Although I have long been a reader of blogs, Assessment in E-Learning alerted me to their use as an assessment of student learning. I used Blogger for my reflections in this class and in Collaborative Communities, and my students did the same in Online Politics and Law. Reading their blog posts provided me with insight into the state of their learning. Students tended to express their ideas in authentic, but formal language in this medium. It was a long way from information transcribed from a text book. These student blogs were part of the students' Google Suite accounts through our school district, and, since they have all graduated, the blogs have been deleted along with their accounts.

I expanded my work with blogging in Creating Collaborative Communities in E-Learning. A partner and I created a tip sheet to assist students in commenting on blogs. The next time that students blog in a class of mine, I want them to enrich the experience with comments. We collaborated via a Google Document:
