About Eric

Eric Beckman teaches social studies to high school students in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area of Minnesota. He has taught high school history in both urban and suburban schools for over 25 years. Eric's recent practice includes incorporating online learning into his traditional classes. He uses Moodle to create web 2.0 learning situations for his World History Classes, both Advanced Placement and on level. In 2012 Eric created and taught an online Politics and Law class for twelfth graders that was blended with two days a week in a Cisco TelePresence room. He blogs about this experience, and more, at www.ebeckman.org.

Eric's online teaching interests currently intersect with areas of interest in his traditional classroom. In his high school classes, Eric is working to include more constructivist learning, especially using primary source analysis to develop history labs that allow students to uncover history. E-learning suits this because forum discussions and webs of knowledge are central to the online learning process. In addition, Eric is working with his professional learning community at school to develop formative assessments. Placing some of these assessments online adds value because immediate feedback is available to the students.Contact Eric:
