Monthly Project

MONTHLY PROJECTS

The purpose of the monthly project is to extend learning beyond the classroom. The idea is for the students to pick a topic related to the subject of study in class and learn. We will brainstorm possible choices in class, generating a list of study areas. Prior to making a final selection, the students are expected to do some presearching to make sure their choice has enough information, is understandable and is interesting to them. They then have to fill out a sheet and get their topics approved by me. They usually have a week to do this.

The monthly project can be presented in any format. Some examples could be a slide show on their laptop, a posterboard, information card or a research paper. Any way to demonstrate research and learning. The project is introduced at the first of the month and due at the end. It is usually done outside of science class and if time allows, will have a day or two a month to work on it. An excellent starting point is www.askforkids.com.
