Wednesday curling update: Rebecca's team now 4-3, still in position for playoff slot

Rebecca and her teammates have a 4-3 record as of Wednesday night, with two crucial games to play Thursday in the round-robin qualifying around at the US Curling Association Junior National Championship tournament in Devils Lake, N.D.

Team Beebe (the teams are named for their skips, or captains) came into the tournament as the 6th seed and won its first three games against higher-seeded teams. It lost the next two against the top two seeds, then won Tuesday night. Despite a loss Wednesday they remained in fourth place in the standings. The top four finishers in the qualifying round will move on to the championship playoffs.

You can follow the action at the USA Curling web site. Click "Qualifying Round" for the standings or "Linescores" for the results of individual matches. The small town of Devil's Lake has been very friendly to the curlers visiting from across the country. The local school's first grade made a poster welcoming the players. On Wednesday night an ice cream social was held for all the teams and the local TV news was there.

Rebecca's team wins its first 3 games at nationals

Rebecca and her teammates are undefeated after three games in two days at the US Curling Association Junior National Championship tournament in Devils Lake, N.D.

Team Beebe took an 8-7 victory in their first match against Team Schieber from Wisconsin. (The teams are named for their skips, or captains.) They followed that with a victory over Team Hufman from Alaska on Sunday morning, and then defeated Team Solem from Minnesota 8-4.

You can follow the action at the USA Curling web site. Click "Qualifying Round" for the standings or "Linescores" for the results of individual matches. (Although... For some reason none of the results from Sunday morning had been posted as of Sunday evening, even though games from later in the day were shown.)

Rebecca's team was seeded sixth in the field of ten teams, with its first five games coming against higher-seeded teams. The top four finishers in the round-robin qualifying round will move on to the championship playoffs.

Team Beebe, ready to play in the USCA Junior Nationals

Lisa writes from Devils Lake, North Dakota, where Rebecca is competing in the US Curling Association Junior Nationals tournament.

Becky and I have arrived in sunny Devils Lake safely (it really is warm and sunny today, doubt it will stay that way). Doug is due to arrive later tonight (Friday). We got a warm welcome from the team's host family's dad at the airport who chauffered us past the curling club and to our hotel. Team practice is at 5:30 tonight, opening ceremonies are tomorrow morning 9am, first game tomorrow at 4.

The girls are seeded 6th and their first five games are those against higher seeds, so an early win is key. (Only the top 4 teams get past the round-robin and into the playoffs).

Once play is underway, you should be able to see scoring and standings at the USA Curling website. Look for Junior Championships. There should be a link to the scoring once games get underway. Or use this link through the Lake Region Curling Club.
