Revelation Lesson 10

Rev. Chapters 19:1 to 20:10

The Millennium

In our last lesson, we studied many of the horrendous events which occurred on Planet Earth during the Blowing of the 7 Trumpets and the Outpouring of the 7 Bowls (Vials / Plagues)! And, guess what! Things are not totally over yet! There are still several significant and major events that must and will occur before all sin and evil is totally and completely judged, avenged, and eradicated before "Eternity" begins. In this lesson, we will look at several of those events.

But, as we usually do, we need to first look at the big picture of what we will be studying. So, your first assignment is to Read Revelation Chapters 19:1 through 20:10. (Yes, less than 2 Chapters this week! Are you surprised?). And, as you read, mark the following words (or words used in place of these words) as follows:

Great Multitude....put a GREEN circle around the word or phrase

Hallelujah..... PURPLE circle..(19:1,3,4,6)

Worship......GREEN circle ....(19:4, 10; 20:4)

Blood......RED circle...(19:2, 13)

Wrath (Orge). BLACK circle around the word and color inside the circle YELLOW...(19:15)

Thousand years.....ORANGE BOX around the word or phrase

Beast......put B1 on the words as you did before

False Prophet....put B2 on the words as you did before

mark....put a black M on the word as you did before

Fiery Lake of Burning Sulfur (or whatever term your Bible uses)....put a RED jagged oval around the phrase.....(19:20; 20:10)

Dragon.. mark with a RED S....(don't forget the words he, him, who, devil, serpent, Satan, etc)

<>< <>< <>< <>< Pause while you do this assignment <>< <>< <>< <><

Great, I see you have finished. So, now let's begin to look at some of the details of these 2 chapters. First, let's think about what you read in Rev. 19:1-6.

There seems to be a big celebration going on in Heaven. Why? (18:20; 19:2-3)____________

________________________________________________________________________

________________________________________________________________________

Who is participating in this rejoicing? (19:1; 19:4; 19:5) ______________________________

________________________________________________________________________

Yes, the Great Multitude, the 24E's and the 4 LC's, and even the Throne of God! are rejoicing because the great prostitute (harlot) has been destroyed and in this destruction, God has avenged the blood of His servants. Who or what was the prostitute? (17:18; 18:2, 10)

____________________________________________________________________

How was she destroyed and who REALLY was responsible for (instigated) her destruction? (17:16-17; 18:5,8) __________________________________________________________________

________________________________________________________________________

How long did it take? (18:10,17,19) ____________________________________________

Why was she destroyed? (18:24; 18:5,8) ________________________________________

Is God REALLY serious about sin? Does He REALLY Hate sin? Will he ultimately Judge sin?

...................................................................YES........................NO

You will notice that a certain praise word was repeated 4 times in the first 6 verses of Rev. 19. What is this word? ______________________________

Correct, this word, Hallelujah (#239) which means "Praise the Lord" or "Praise ye Jah" (Jah is obviously referring to the word, Jehovah) is used MANY times in the Old Testament, but amazingly is only used 4 times in the NT and all 4 of those times are right here in Chapter 19! Now, I know you could live without that information, but I thought it was interesting and significant and wanted to share that with you.

But, let's continue on. Rev. 19:6-9 speaks of a very important event. What is it?

___________________________________________________________________

Yes, the Wedding of the Lamb. Who is the Lamb? And who is the Bride? Before you answer these questions, just in case you are not exactly sure, let's read a passage in Ephesians which will help you. And, as you read this passage, put a RED or BLUE CROSS on every occurrence of the word, Christ, or any word used in its place (He, Him, etc). And put a GREEN CIRCLE around every occurrence of the word, Church, or any word used in its place (her, body, etc.) Also put a Yellow circle around the word, MYSTERY.

Ephesians 5:22-33 Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing {[26] Or having cleansed}her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church-- for we are members of his body. "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." {Gen. 2:24} This is a profound mystery--but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

Ok, now I will ask you again. Who is the Lamb? (Rev. 5:5-6 & Ephes 5:22-33) __________

And, who is the bride? (Ephes 5:22-33) ___________________________

How does a person become a part of the Bride of Christ? (Ephes. 1:13-14) As you read this passage, mark the words Christ and Church or words used in place of these words, in the same way as you just did in the other Ephesians passage. Then, underline in RED, how a person becomes a part of the Bride (Church) of Christ.

Ephesians 1:13-14 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, Who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession--to the praise of his glory.

So, How does a person become a part of the Bride of Christ ______________________

________________________________________________________________________

Have you heard the Word of Truth, the Gospel? And believed and accepted it? And been saved? If you have, you are now betrothed (engaged to) Jesus, the Lamb, and are part of His bride. Therefore it is YOU who is now being referred to in Rev. 19:7-8 ! It is now time for YOUR marriage to occur! Write here what God has written about YOU in the book of Revelation:______________________________________________________________

______________________________________________________________________

______________________________________________________________________

In Rev 19:7-8, we saw that this bride had made herself ready and was given fine linen, bright and clean, to wear. How did she get ready? And How did she get this bright clean (spotless and without blemish) linen? (Hint: before you answer these 2 questions, reread Ephesians 5:22-33 again AND also remember what we studied in Lesson 8 concerning the Bema Judgment Seat of Christ).

<>< <>< Pause while you reread Ephes. 5:22-23 and think about the Bema Judgment Seat of Christ <>< <><

Ok. Now answer those questions: How did the bride get ready and How did she get the bright clean linen to wear?

_____________________________________________________________________

_____________________________________________________________________

_____________________________________________________________________

Yes, Christ made His people, (the Bride, the Church), holy (spotless and without blemish) by giving Himself up for her, (by dying on the cross to pay her death penalty) and thereby causing her to be Righteous (holy and blameless.) Remember also Romans 14:14, which we read in lesson 4, "...clothe yourself with the Lord Jesus Christ...". Since Jesus died for us and has put His Holy Spirit in us, we are now clothed with the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, HE made us (the Church, His Bride) "ready", Holy and Blameless by imparting (imputing) to us HIS Righteousness. Also, He (Jesus) cleanses His bride by the washing with water through the Word. Do you seen now why it is so important to consistently read and study and meditate upon the Bible, (His Words, instructions, and communications to us), while we await His return? And, finally, the righteous acts which He gives us to do after we are saved and while we are still here on earth are those which withstand the testing by Fire at the Bema, and result in gold, silver, and precious jewels with their attendant rewards and awards, among which are the white linen. (Remember Rev. 3:4 ; 3:5, and 3:18).

Now we can better understand why the great multitude is saying Hallelujah again in verse 6!

<>< <>< <>< <>< Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! Praise ye Jah! <>< <>< <>< <><

But, we must continue on! As the Bride of Christ, we are now about to witness our Husband, our Savior, The King of Kings and Lord of Lords !!! do another amazing and awesome thing!

What is it? BRIEFLY Describe what occurs. (Rev. 19:11-21) ________________________

What is the sharp sword which comes out of His mouth? Hint: Before you answer this question, read the following scriptures; and, as you read, underline what the Sharp sword is and what it does.

Hebrews 4:12-13 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to Whom we must give account.

Ephes. 6:17 Take ... the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Ok, based on what you have read, What is the sharp sword which comes out the mouth of The Lord Jesus Christ? ________________________________________________________

What can and does this sword do? Before you answer, read the following verses, and again, underline what this sword can and does do.

2 Thess 2:8 And then the lawless one (B1) will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of His mouth and destroy by the splendor of His coming.

Isaiah 11:4 ... He (Jesus) will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth; with the breath of His lips He will slay the wicked.

Ok, so What can and does this sword do? ______________________________________

And what DID Jesus DO with this sword? (19:15, 20-21) __________________________

______________________________________________________________________

Yes, The Lord captures B1 and B2 and strikes down and destroys (kills) ALL His enemies by just speaking the Word! WOW! What awesome power and authority! No wonder He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! No wonder the great multitude said (19:1-2) ________________

Say again!? They were WHAT? ______________________________________________

Yes! B1 and B2 were thrown ALIVE into the fire lake of burning sulfur! (the Lake of fire which burns with brimstone). Have you ever had a burn with burning sulfur? It is HORRIBLE!

Oh, come on now, you say! There is NO such thing as a lake of fire of burning sulfur. This is just a symbol or something. God wouldn't do that! Oh no? Well, let's see what Jesus Himself has to say about such a place. Read the following passages and then you decide IF you think Jesus really thinks that there is such a place as a LAKE OF FIRE OF BURNING SULFUR! And, as you read, underline in RED what Jesus says about this place.

Matthew 5: 21-22 You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, `Do not murder, {Exodus 20:13} and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.' But I (Jesus) tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother }will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, `Raca,{An Aramaic term of contempt}' is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, `You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell.

Matt. 5:27-30 "You have heard that it was said, `Do not commit adultery.' {Exodus 20:14} But I (Jesus) tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

Matt. 18:8-9 If your hand or your foot causes you to sin cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.

Mark 9: 43-48 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, where "`their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.' Isaiah 66:24}

Matt 13: 40-42 "As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Matt 25:41 Then he will say to those on his left, `Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

Hmmmmm. Well, YES, there does seem to be a REAL and LITERAL HELL! So, I guess now you want to know Who goes there and why? Well, we will find out about that later, when we get to the Great White Throne Judgement. So, hold those thoughts.

In the meantime, now that B1 and B2 have been thrown into the Real and Literal LAKE OF FIRE OF BURNING SULFUR, let's see what happens to the Devil at the conclusion of this Battle of Armageddon! After all, the devil was the instigator of all this sin and deception and deceit and hatred against Christ and His creation (the world and everything in it) and God's chosen race (the Jews) and His servants (the martyrs, the Church, and others)! Surely something bad should happen to him! Right?! Well, let's see.

Read Rev. 20:1-3.

Is the Devil = the dragon?..............YES..............NO

Is the Devil = Satan?......................YES..............NO

How do you know that the Dragon = the Devil = Satan = that ancient Serpent (in the Garden of Eden) ? (20:2) __________________________________________________________

Ok! What happened to the Devil / Satan ? (20:1-3) _______________________________

________________________________________________________________________

Correct! An angel came down out of heaven and (20:2) _______________ the dragon (the Devil, Satan) and __________________ him with the great chain and (20:3) _________ him into the________ and ____________ it and _______________ it over ________ . And Satan was bound (chained) and locked in the abyss for (20:2) _______________________ years ! (Wow! Talk about a prison sentence !!! AND with NO parole !!!)

So, What IS this Abyss? Is this the lake of fire with burning sulfur?.......YES........NO

Correct, it is NOT the lake of Fire with burning sulfur. But, it is a place you have heard of before. Remember the 5th trumpet? What happened? (9:1-3) ____________________________

____________________________________________________________________

And these locusts that came out of the abyss had a king. What was his name? (9:11) ________

And is King Abaddon (Apollyon) the same individual as the Devil / Satan? (Hint: before you answer this, reread Rev. 11:7 and 13:2,4) ................ YES.................. NO

Yes, you are correct. Abaddon (Apollyon) are still more names for the Devil. Boy, he sure does have a lot of aliases, doesn't he? But, it doesn't matter. God KNOWS EVERYTHING and the Devil was not able to escape or hide from God. (And, for that matter, neither will you or I!)

Well, what IS this Abyss? Is there any description of it elsewhere? Since the Lake of fire burning with sulfur is a real place, this surely is, too. So, what is it like in the Abyss? Well, Vines Expository Dictionary gives us some insight. As you read this, underline in BLACK, the description of the Abyss (Abussos # 12).

"Abyss (Greek ABUSSOS) = "bottomless ... it describes an immeasurable depth, the underworld, the lower regions, the abyss of Sheol. ... the abode of the lost dead... the lower regions ... the abode of demons, out of which they can be let loose, ...

Hmmmmm. Not a good place to be spending 1000 years!

So, WHY was this done to the Devil (Satan)? What was the purpose of chaining him and putting him in the abyss for 1000 years? (20:3) _______________________________________

_____________________________________________________________________

What? "To keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended"? What does this mean? I thought that almost everyone had been killed during the events of the past 7 years and at the battle of Armageddon! And, isn't it about time now for eternity to begin? What is this 1000 years? And where does it take place? Surely the earth is a MESS by now! And, I bet the 'save the earth' crowd (if any are left) is having a conniption at all the destruction and devastation! So, tell me! What IS this 1000 years and who will be in it? And will it be on earth? And WHY do we need a thousand more years ?

GREAT QUESTIONS! And as usual, you are thinking! So, let's see what the Scriptures can tell us in answer to your questions.

First of all, reread Rev. 20:4-6 and you will discover some of the people who will be involved in the 1000 year Reign of Christ.

<>< <>< <>< <>< Pause while you read Rev. 20:4-6 <>< <>< <><<><

Yes, this is the time of the Millennial Kingdom Age when Jesus Christ will be the Supreme Ruler of

Earth! So, who are some who will be reigning WITH Christ during this period of time?

(20:4) those who had been given ____________________________________________

(20:4) the souls of those who had been _______________________________________

(20:4) those who had not worshiped __________________________________________

(20:4) those who had not received ____________________________________________

they _____________________________________________________________

and ______________________________________________________________

for _________________________________________________

Yes! They will come to life and are going to reign with Christ for a thousand years! Great! But, who are they going to be reigning over? Who is still alive?

Well, again, the Bible is always its own and best commentary. So, let's look at the following verses and I think you will get your questions answered.

Matt 25:31-46 When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. Then the King will say to those on his right, `Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' Then the righteous will answer him, `Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' The King will reply, `I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' Then he will say to those on his left, `Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' They also will answer, `Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' He will reply, `I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.' Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

Hmmmmmm. Is this the JUDGEMENT OF NATIONS that you said we would study later? YES!

Hmmmmm. Very Interesting!

So, there ARE a few people (though probably not very many) who survive all the terrible events of the 7 years of God's wrath (orge) and had NOT taken the mark. And , these people comprise 2 categories:

    • (1) they were either Jews OR they were Gentiles (everyone who is NOT a Jew) who had been good to the Jews and had helped them during the 7 years.
    • (2) And, there is the other category of people, ie those who had NOT been good to God's people, the Jews, and /or had taken the Mark.

Now, based on these two broad categories or groups:

...........(1) = Jews and those (Gentiles) who had helped the Jews and

...........(2) = those who had taken the mark or had not helped the Jews,

which group was the sheep and which was the goats?

Sheep = Category # _______ , ___________________________________________

Goats = Category # _______ , ___________________________________________

Do the Sheep enter the 1000 year Reign of Christ?......YES........NO

Do the Goats enter the 1000 year Reign of Christ?.......YES ......NO

What happens to the Goats? _______________________________________________

(And by the way, lest any of you are thinking you can also make it into heaven at the Great White Throne Judgment, which comes at the END of the 1000 years, based on your works and deeds.... forget it! This Judgment of the Nations Judgment is the ONLY time that God rewards people like this for their good works. So, if you want to get into heaven based on your good works.... you better plan on being good to the Jews WHILE you try to make it through the 7 years! Personally, I think I will just accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior Before the 7 years and forgo all of that. After all, right now the gift of salvation is totally FREE. Once you enter the 7 years, it is "katie bar the door" as my earthly father used to say. )

So, now we see where the people who will be in the 1000 years come from. They are the Sheep who were separated from the Goats at the time of the Judgment of the Nations.

Now, let's see what will HAPPEN during the 1000 years, which is often also referred to as the Millennium. Why is it called the Millennium? Because MILLE = 1000 and Annus = year. So this is 1000 years.

But, before we look at what happens during the Millennial Kingdom Age of Christ, I need to warn you that, as you suspected, there ARE varying views about this 1000 year reign! I know you are not surprised at that.

But, just so you will know what the 3 Main views are, let me briefly summarize them for you:

1. Amillennialism (sometimes called "Amil" and pronounced 'ah-mil'). Those who hold this view believe that there is NO literal 1000 year reign. Instead, they believe that the Kingdom of Christ is going on NOW and when Christ does return, there will be only 1 return of Christ (instead of a Rapture before or during the 7 years and His physical return at the end of the 7 years) and only 1 resurrection, when He separates the saved from the lost at the Great White Throne Judgment.

2. Post Millennialism. (often called, you guessed it, "Post Mil") This view holds that we are now in or soon will be entering the Millennium and that the Church is working out things so that things just get better and better and finally everything (the government, morals, etc) will be sooooo wonderful that Jesus can and will come back and set up His reign on earth.

3. PreMillennialism (yes, called "Pre Mil"). This view holds that Jesus comes back in a visible form at the end of the 7 years of wrath, defeats the Devil, B1, B2, etc. at the Battle of Armageddon, establishes His earthly Kingdom of 1000 years. etc. In other words, the PreMils basically take a LITERAL interpretation of the Book of Revelation (as we are doing in this course). There are minor variations among the PreMill'-ers concerning when the rapture occurs (before the 7 years = "Pre Trib"; at the middle of the 7 years = "Mid Trib", or at the end of the 7 years = "Post Trib") and there are even variations within these variations. But, ALL of the "Pre Mils" believe in a LITERAL interpretation of the book of Revelation.

Well, with that said, let's look (in a "Pre Mil" way) at what happens during the Millennium, (which is also know as The Kingdom Age and the 1000 year Kingdom of Christ on earth.)

And, to find out what happens during this Kingdom age, let's again let the Bible be its own Commentary. So, I will list a few of the Scriptures which give us insight into this period of time. As you read these passages, underline in ORANGE any facts or information which describe this time.

Scriptures which give insight into the Millennial Kingdom of Christ!

Daniel 2: 31-45 (This passage is a summary of almost the entire history of the world. But the important thing to notice concerning the 1000 year reign is the Rock / mountain which is the kingdom which will never be destroyed. This mountain, is the Kingdom of Christ and the 1000 years is the Beginning of this Kingdom. In our last lesson, when we study about Heaven, we will see the continuation of this Kingdom which is, indeed, eternal and unending! Time for another Hallelujah!)

Daniel 2:31-45 You looked, O king, and there before you stood a large statue--an enormous, dazzling statue, awesome in appearance. The head of the statue was made of pure gold, its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze, its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of baked clay. While you were watching, a rock was cut out, but not by human hands. It struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay and smashed them. Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold were broken to pieces at the same time and became like chaff on a threshing floor in the summer. The wind swept them away without leaving a trace. But the rock that struck the statue became a huge mountain and filled the whole earth. This was the dream, and now we will interpret it to the king. You, O king, are the king of kings. The God of heaven has given you dominion and power and might and glory; in your hands he has placed mankind and the beasts of the field and the birds of the air. Wherever they live, he has made you ruler over them all. You are that head of gold. After you, another kingdom will rise, inferior to yours. Next, a third kingdom, one of bronze, will rule over the whole earth. Finally, there will be a fourth kingdom, strong as iron--for iron breaks and smashes everything--and as iron breaks things to pieces, so it will crush and break all the others. Just as you saw that the feet and toes were partly of baked clay and partly of iron, so this will be a divided kingdom; yet it will have some of the strength of iron in it, even as you saw iron mixed with clay. As the toes were partly iron and partly clay, so this kingdom will be partly strong and partly brittle. And just as you saw the iron mixed with baked clay, so the people will be a mixture and will not remain united, any more than iron mixes with clay. In the time of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever. This is the meaning of the vision of the rock cut out of a mountain, but not by human hands--a rock that broke the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver and the gold to pieces. The great God has shown the king what will take place in the future. The dream is true and the interpretation is trustworthy.

Daniel 7: 14 (Again, as in the Daniel 2 passage, the beginning of this "everlasting dominion that will not pass away" is the 1000 year reign.) So let's see what Daniel 7:14 says:

He (Jesus) was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and His Kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.

Isaiah 9: 6-7 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

Isaiah 61:1-11 (Notice, as you read these verses, that the first part is what Jesus read when He took the scroll and read from it in the synagogue and thereby announced Who He was and the purpose for His ministry. Luke 4:16-21. But, the rest of this Isaiah passage, Jesus did NOT read at that time, because it was NOT yet time for that part of the passage to be fulfilled. However, we now see that the Kingdom age is ready to begin. So, let's read the entire passage, knowing that the first part is applicable to the time of Jesus' first coming to earth for the purpose of redeeming our souls and that the second part will be fulfilled, after Jesus' second coming, during the 1000 years and in the eternity which follows)

Isaiah 61:1-11 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me (Jesus), because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, {Hebrew; Septuagint the blind} to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion-- to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor. They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations. Aliens will shepherd your flocks; foreigners will work your fields and vineyards. And you will be called priests of the LORD, you will be named ministers of our God. You will feed on the wealth of nations, and in their riches you will boast. Instead of their shame my people will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace they will rejoice in their inheritance; and so they will inherit a double portion in their land, and everlasting joy will be theirs. For I, the LORD, love justice; I hate robbery and iniquity. In my faithfulness I will reward them and make an everlasting covenant with them. Their descendants will be known among the nations and their offspring among the peoples. All who see them will acknowledge that they are a people the LORD has blessed. I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign LORD will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.

Isaiah 2:1-5 This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem: In the last days the mountain of the LORD's temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it. Many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths." The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.Come, O house of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the LORD.

Isaiah 11:1-12:6 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him-- the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD-- and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked. Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist. The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling {[6] Hebrew; Septuagint lion will feed}together; and a little child will lead them. The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. The infant will play near the hole of the cobra, and the young child put his hand into the viper's nest. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his place of rest will be glorious. In that day the Lord will reach out his hand a second time to reclaim the remnant that is left of his people from Assyria, from Lower Egypt, from Upper Egypt, from Cush, {That is, the upper Nile region}from Elam, from Babylonia, {Hebrew Shinar} from Hamath and from the islands of the sea. He will raise a banner for the nations and gather the exiles of Israel; he will assemble the scattered people of Judah from the four quarters of the earth. Ephraim's jealousy will vanish, and Judah's enemies will be cut off; Ephraim will not be jealous of Judah, nor Judah hostile toward Ephraim. They will swoop down on the slopes of Philistia to the west; together they will plunder the people to the east. They will lay hands on Edom and Moab, and the Ammonites will be subject to them. The LORD will dry up the gulf of the Egyptian sea; with a scorching wind he will sweep his hand over the Euphrates River. He will break it up into seven streams so that men can cross over in sandals. There will be a highway for the remnant of his people that is left from Assyria, as there was for Israel when they came up from Egypt. In that day you will say: "I will praise you, O LORD. Although you were angry with me, your anger has turned away and you have comforted me. Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation." With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. In that day you will say: "Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done, and proclaim that his name is exalted. Sing to the LORD, for he has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world. Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel among you."

Isaiah 66:19-21 The workers from the city who farm it will come from all the tribes of Israel. The entire portion will be a square, 25,000 cubits on each side. As a special gift you will set aside the sacred portion, along with the property of the city. What remains on both sides of the area formed by the sacred portion and the city property will belong to the prince. It will extend eastward from the 25,000 cubits of the sacred portion to the eastern border, and westward from the 25,000 cubits to the western border. Both these areas running the length of the tribal portions will belong to the prince, and the sacred portion with the temple sanctuary will be in the center of them.

Isaiah 65: 8-25 (This passage also includes explanatory information concerning events prior to the establishment of the 1000 year reign and also alludes to events which will occur after the 1000 year kingdom is concluded and has continued on as the Eternal Rule of Christ in the new Heavens and the New Earth. So, with this in mind, if you read this carefully, you will see important information about what occurs during the 1000 years and why.)

This is what the LORD says: "As when juice is still found in a cluster of grapes and men say, `Don't destroy it, there is yet some good in it,' so will I do in behalf of my servants; I will not destroy them all. I will bring forth descendants from Jacob, and from Judah those who will possess my mountains; my chosen people will inherit them, and there will my servants live. Sharon will become a pasture for flocks, and the Valley of Achor a resting place for herds, for my people who seek me. But as for you who forsake the LORD and forget my holy mountain, who spread a table for Fortune and fill bowls of mixed wine for Destiny, I will destine you for the sword, and you will all bend down for the slaughter; for I called but you did not answer, I spoke but you did not listen. You did evil in my sight and chose what displeases me." Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: "My servants will eat, but you will go hungry; my servants will drink, but you will go thirsty; my servants will rejoice, but you will be put to shame. My servants will sing out of the joy of their hearts, but you will cry out from anguish of heart and wail in brokenness of spirit. You will leave your name to my chosen ones as a curse; the Sovereign LORD will put you to death, but to his servants he will give another name. Whoever invokes a blessing in the land will do so by the God of truth; he who takes an oath in the land will swear by the God of truth. For the past troubles will be forgotten and hidden from my eyes. Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create, for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy. I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my people; the sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more.Never again will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not live out his years; he who dies at a hundred will be thought a mere youth; he who fails to reach {Or the sinner who reaches} a hundred will be considered accursed. They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. No longer will they build houses and others live in them, or plant and others eat. For as the days of a tree, so will be the days of my people; my chosen ones will long enjoy the works of their hands. They will not toil in vain or bear children doomed to misfortune; for they will be a people blessed by the LORD, they and their descendants with them. Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear. The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but dust will be the serpent's food. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain," says the LORD.

Ezekiel 37:15-28 (NKJV) The word of the LORD came to me: "Son of man, take a stick of wood and write on it, `Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him.' Then take another stick of wood, and write on it, `Ephraim's stick, belonging to Joseph and all the house of Israel associated with him.' Join them together into one stick so that they will become one in your hand. When your countrymen ask you, `Won't you tell us what you mean by this?' say to them, `This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am going to take the stick of Joseph--which is in Ephraim's hand--and of the Israelite tribes associated with him, and join it to Judah's stick, making them a single stick of wood, and they will become one in my hand.' Hold before their eyes the sticks you have written on and say to them, `This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will take the Israelites out of the nations where they have gone. I will gather them from all around and bring them back into their own land. I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel. There will be one king over all of them and they will never again be two nations or be divided into two kingdoms. They will no longer defile themselves with their idols and vile images or with any of their offenses, for I will save them from all their sinful backsliding, and I will cleanse them. They will be my people, and I will be their God. My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd. They will follow my laws and be careful to keep my decrees. They will live in the land I gave to my servant Jacob, the land where your fathers lived. They and their children and their children's children will live there forever, and David my servant will be their prince forever. I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant. I will establish them and increase their numbers, and I will put my sanctuary among them forever. My dwelling place will be with them; I will be their God, and they will be my people. Then the nations will know that I the LORD make Israel holy, when my sanctuary is among them forever.'"

Ezekiel 39:28-29 (NKJV)`then they shall know that I [am] the Lord their God, who sent them into captivity among the nations, but also brought them back to their land, and left none of them captive any longer. `And I will not hide My face from them anymore; for I shall have poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel,' says the Lord God."

Ezekiel 40-48. (We did NOT include these chapters in the text of this lesson. But, I wanted you to be aware of them and if you have time, you should read them. What they are describing is the Millennial Temple and the guidelines concerning the Worship in it, the return of GOD to the Temple, the division of the land to the 12 tribes, and other such things.)

And there are other passages in the Bible which give even more information about the 1000 years. But, let's stop with these and briefly summarize what you have learned in an 'overview' fashion.

So, based on what you have read, answer the following questions.

What is the PURPOSE of the 1000 Millennial reign of Christ? Hint: before you answer this, read the following scriptures:

Psalms 2:1-12 Why do the nations conspire (Septuagint rage} and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed One. "Let us break their chains," they say, "and throw off their fetters." The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. Then he rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, "I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill." I will proclaim the decree of the LORD: He said to me, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father. (Or have begotten you} Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. You will rule them with an iron scepter {Or will break them with a rod of iron}; you will dash them to pieces like pottery." Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

Luke 1: 30-33 But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."

Luke 22:28-30 You are those who have stood by Me in my trials. And I confer on you a kingdom, just as My Father conferred one on Me, so that you may eat and drink at my table in My kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Romans 8:17-23 Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

Ok, I will ask this again: What is the PURPOSE Of the 1000 year Millennial reign of Christ?

When does the 1000 year reign end? ________________________________________

Yes, that was tough! At the end of the 1000 years. But Does the Kingdom of Christ END at the end of the 1000 years?............................YES......................NO

Correct, it does not end. It continues but in a variation on its form. We will study the CONTINUATION of the Reign of Christ over His Eternal Kingdom in our last lesson.

But, since we are speaking of the END of the 1000 years, let's look at what HAPPENS at the end of this Golden age of Utopia on earth, that period of time when the Lord Jesus Christ is the Supreme Ruler, the King of Kings, and when everyone lives in His Presence and will know Him and See Him. Prosperity abounds. There will be peace, joy, happiness. People will live long and fruitful lives. And.... well, it will be JUST WONDERFUL.

BUT!

Isn't there always a BUT?! But, what happened at the end of the 1000 years? Read Revelation 20:7-10.

<>< <>< <>< <>< Pause while you read Rev. 10:7-10 <>< <>< <>< <><

Yes, at the end of the 1000 years, Satan's prison term, in the Abyss, was over! But had this 1000 years taught him anything? Was he now willing to submit to the Lord Jesus Christ and serve Him as he had done before his sin so many millennia before?...........YES................NO

No, he had not changed one bit! And, of course that was NOT why he had been put into the Abyss anyway. We really didn't expect him to repent. Why had be been put there? (20:3)

_____________________________________________________________________

______________________________________________________________________

So now the devil has been released and what does he immediately do? 20:8-9 ___________

______________________________________________________________________

Yes, he immediately goes out and begins to deceive nations (and the people in them) again. (Hmmm. I wonder how many of the people in the Nation that God had assigned YOU to rule over will be deceived? Hmmmmmm).

Anyway, the devil goes out and deceives the nations and gathers them for (20:18) _________ .

Did very many decide to join the devil in this rebellion? Remember, these people have been living for centuries in the most wonderful conditions that the world had know since the time of the Creation of Adam and Eve. So why would they want to rebel against such a wonderful King as King Jesus? And why would they want things to be different? And why do they think the devil can do anything better for them?

So, I ask you? DID very many decide to join the devil in this rebellion against the Lord Jesus Christ and God's people and the City (Jerusalem) that God loves?............YES............NO

How many? (20:8) ______________________________________________________

As many in number as like the sand on the seashore! Are these people nutz????? We are talking millions, perhaps billions here!!!! What is the problem???? What is wrong with these people??? Why in the world do they want to forsake all of this and join up with the forces of the devil and try to overthrow the rule and reign of the Lord Jesus Christ!!!???? Well, before you answer this, perhaps these scriptures will help you understand about mankind and his nature. As you read them, underline or highlight in BLACK what you learn about people and why they have a propensity for sin, evil, rebellion, etc.

Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure (desperately wicked). Who can understand it?

Psalm 116:11 And in my dismay I said, "All men are liars."

Jeremiah 9:5 Friend deceives friend, and no one speaks the truth. They have taught their tongues to lie; they weary themselves with sinning.

Romans 3:13 Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips.

Why is mankind like this? Why all this sin? Well, it all is because of the "The Fall", the sin of Adam and Eve when they disobeyed God and chose to believe the lie of the devil. Their sin of disobedience brought the entrance of sin into this world, affecting ALL of mankind and ALL of God's creation. So, even if a person lives in a perfect utopia, such as the Millennial Kingdom of Christ, with the most wonderful and Godly Ruler / King over them, as they did during the 1000 years, the sin nature is still in them; it is still there! And it will cause them to have desires and cravings and do things that are SIN!

So, you ask, HOW can a person get rid of this sin nature? IF living in a wonderful environment, such as that which existed during the 1000 Millennial years, won't free a person from the influence and effects of sin, then HOW can a person get free from the SIN NATURE that was passed down from generation to generation from Adam and Eve?

Glad you asked. For again, the Bible has the answer. Let's read it. And when you see the answer, underline it in RED!

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God....

(therefore, 'sin' is the effect of the fall / sin of Adam and Eve)

Romans 3: 20 ...no one will be declared righteous in His sight by observing the law....

(and indeed, during the 1000 years the Law WAS observed. If you read Ezekiel 40-48, you noticed that there was serious and big time observing of the Law! So, living in a perfect environment and keeping the rules of the Kingdom will NOT eradicate the sin nature of a person!!! The next passage, in Romans further clarifies this fact.)

Romans 3: 21- 25a , 27-28 (The Living Bible) But now God has shown us a different way to heaven -- not by being good enough and trying to keep His laws, but by a new way (though not new, really, for the Scriptures told about it long ago). Now God says He will accept and acquit us -- declare us "not guilty" -- if we trust Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we can all be saved in this same way, by coming to Christ, no matter who we are or what we have been like. Yes, all have sinned; all fall short of God's glorious ideal; Yet now God declares us "not guilty" of offending Him if we trust in Jesus Christ, Who in His kindness freely takes away our sins. For God sent Christ Jesus to take the punishment for our sins and to end all God's anger against us. He used Christ's blood and our faith as the means of saving us from His wrath. ...... our acquittal is not based on our good deeds; it is based on what Christ has done and our faith in Him.. So it is that we are saved by faith in Christ and not by the good things we do ...

And what is it about Christ that enables us to be saved? It is the atoning BLOOD sacrifice of His life (which He gave as a blood sacrifice, through His death, to pay the penalty for sin -- ALL sin including yours and mine).

As you read the following passages, underline in RED every mention to Christ's Blood and also underline, in Red, WHAT His Blood did or accomplished.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Hebrews 9:11-15 When Christ came as high priest of the good things that are already here, He went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not man-made, that is to say, not a part of this creation. He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, {[14] Or from useless rituals}so that we may serve the living God! For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance--now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.

Hebrews 9:24-28 For Christ did not enter a man-made sanctuary that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God's presence. Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own. Then Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

Hebrews 10:1-18 The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming--not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. If it could, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins. But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased. Then I said, `Here I am--it is written about me in the scroll-- I have come to do your will, O God.'" { Psalm 40:6-8} First he said, "Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them" (although the law required them to be made). Then he said, "Here I am, I have come to do your will." He sets aside the first to establish the second. And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God. Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool, because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: "This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds." {Jer. 31:33} Then he adds: "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more." {Jer. 31:34} And where these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin.

Had these people who joined the Devil and rebelled at the end of the 1000 years done that? Had they made Jesus the LORD of their lives by accepting Jesus' sin sacrifice and the salvation, the salvation that would cause their sins to be forgiven and their SIN NATURE TO BE REMOVED and REPLACED by Jesus' life? Or were they just living in His Kingdom still with unconfessed and unrepented sin in their bodies, with their sin nature still intact and 'biding their time' until.....

Do you see now what the Temple Service and Sacrifices offered by the Jews, during the thousands of years Before Christ came to offer His life as the final and complete sacrifice for ALL sin, really meant?

Do you understand that the worship and the offerings being offered in the Temple, both before Jesus came 2000 years ago to pay the final sacrifice for sin.... and during the 1000 years of the Millennial rule in the Millenienial temple described for us in Ezekiel 40-48, was a picture which the Jews (and anyone who would pay attention) had constantly before them...it was to picture and demonstrate that Jesus' blood is the one and only and final and complete atoning sacrifice !

So, had these people in Rev. 20:9 accepted Jesus' gift of salvation?..........YES...........NO

No, they had not. They were still sinners! And, what happened to them? (20:9) __________

This is how:

    • 1. Believe that Jesus died for you on the Cross and arose from the Grave and Lives NOW.
    • 2. Admit to God that you are a sinner.
    • 3. Be willing to turn from your sins (repent of them and forsake them.)
    • 4. Confess your specific sins to Jesus and ask Him to forgive you. (He WILL forgive you IF you are truly serious about this.)
    • 5. Ask Jesus to come into your life and be your Lord and Master forever.

IF you are willing to accept Christ's gift of Salvation, have your sin nature removed and be replaced with the Righteousness of Jesus, and live forever in His Kingom with Jesus as your Master, King and Lord, you may! And you can do this by praying a prayer such as this:

Lord Jesus,

I desire to live with you forever in Your Kingdom and under Your rule. I know that You, Jesus, ARE the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and are the Lord and Master and Creator of the Universe and everything in it, including me.

I believe that You died as payment for my death penalty, which I deserve, for the sins that I have committed. I confess to you that I have sinned ...... (stop and name your sins to Him and agree that you did sin and ask His forgiveness.... this may take a while...but do it!.....)

I ask your forgiveness for all of these sins and am willing to forsake them forever. I desire to let You be my Master and Lord and Savior forever. Please come into my heart and life and control me. I am willing for You to teach me, guide me, and use me for Your purposes and glory now and forever.

Thank you God Jesus, for saving me!

Date ____________________________________________

If you prayed that prayer, or one like it, sign it and date it. And know that from this day forward, should you die or should the Lord come for His church (and for you), that you WILL be with Him forever in His eternal Kingdom.

In our last lesson, Lesson 12, we will learn more, much more, about that Kingdom, which is your future and permanent home. In our next lesson, L-11, we will learn what happens to those who do NOT choose to serve God Jesus.

So, see you in the next 2 lessons!
