Basic Playing Rules

  1. Fields or pitches should be 70 m long by 50 m wide with marked scorelines, sidelines and a half-way line.

  2. Teams consist of up to 14 players with a maximum of 6 players on the field at any time.

  3. Players may interchange through channel of sub box without limitation of time and frequency.

  4. To decide which team to commence the game, team captains are to toss. The winning team commences the match with a Tap at the centre of the half-way line.

  5. The attacking team is entitled 6 Touches before possession changes unless other rules are infringed.

  6. If the ball is dropped or knocked-on, a change of possession occurs and the game starts with a Rollball.

  7. Attacking players may run with the ball or pass the ball sideways or backwards until they are touched.

  8. If a player makes a Forward pass, the defending team will be awarded a penalty.

  9. If an attacking player passes the ball after being touched, the defending team will be awarded a penalty.

  10. A Tap on the Mark is taken by the non-offending team for penalties. The offending team must retire 10 m or more.

  11. A Touch is any contact between the ball carrier and a defender. It must be using the minimum force.

  12. After being touched, the player has to perform a Rollball, stepping forward or gently rolling the ball back between the feet.

  13. Players cannot perform a Rollball unless being touched or awarded a penalty.

  14. Players must perform the Rollball at the Mark located by the referee.

  15. The attacking player who picks up the ball after a Rollball is “Half”, who can either run or pass.

  16. If the half gets touched, a change of possession occurs and the game restarts with a Rollball.

  17. At a Rollball, all defenders must retire a minimum of 7 m (5 m for FIT 4th Edition).

  18. Penalties are awarded against defenders who do not retire 5 m for a Rollball and 10 m for a Tap.

  19. A touchdown is an attacking player, except the Half, to score by placing the ball on or over the Scoreline before being touched.

  20. The team that scores the most touchdowns in the game is declared the winning team.
