Welcome to "The Digital Dragon", an eNewsletter for our Boston Latin Academy community. The Digital Dragon will provide information and opportunities that is relevant to our Boston Latin Academy community.

BLA Operations

Covid Testing

Covid-19 testing will take place on Wednesday, September 29 from 6:30am to 2pm in the Medical Waiting Room (Rm 142).

Student Support

Boston Latin Academy's Hapgood Library is staffed by two librarians, Ms. Lewis and Ms. Estrada.

The library's new hours are Monday -Thursday 6:30 am - 3:30 pm and Fridays 6:30 am - 1:40 pm. After School teacher is Ms. Nandawula.

To access the library you need to reserve a seat during your study hall. To reserve a seat go to latinacademy.org/lib

9th Grade Assembly will take place in the gym on Tuesday, September 28 in 2nd period.

10th Grade Assembly will take place in the gym on Thursday, September 30 in 6th period.

Student Club Spotlight

Students in the Recycling Club coordinated a school-wide effort to remove all recyclable items from classrooms into the basement. Thank you for your work and service to our community.

Student Opportunities

7th AND 8th GRADERS: DISCOVERING JUSTICE'S MOCK TRIAL PROGRAM

The Mock Trial Program is a free 10-week after-school program that transforms middle school students into the role of trial lawyers. With the support of volunteer attorneys and legal professionals from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, students tackle age-appropriate legal issues, engage in legal analysis, and ultimately try cases in virtual courtrooms before federal or state judges and juries made up of community members. Program Dates: The program will run virtually on Zoom on Thursdays from 3:00-4:30pm starting October 7th through mid-December. Some sessions might occur in-person (TBD). ​​(View class schedule at Schedule for Fall 2021 semester)

OPPORTUNITY FOR 7th GRADE GIRLS: LITTLE SISTER WORKPLACE MENTORING

Big Sister Boston will be offering our free Workplace Mentoring Program to incoming 7th graders at BLA again. Girls in 7th grade enroll as Little Sisters and are matched with Big Sisters from Fidelity Investments for two academic years. The Workplace Mentoring program occurs on Thursdays, twice a month virtually, with the potential to transition to in-person visits at the Fidelity workplace depending on CDC guidelines. This program offers a mentoring and enrichment experience for the girls of Greater Boston.

Program Dates: October/November 2021- May 2023

BIG SISTER COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY AT THE TROTTER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Big Sister Boston will be offering our High School Mentoring Program at BLA again this year as a community service learning opportunity! Girls in grades 9th-12th are matched with "Littles" from the Trotter Elementary School around the corner and serve as their mentor. High School Bigs also participate in the Girls Leadership Program, a space dedicated to developing leadership skills, providing peer-to-peer support, and making new friends!

​Program Commitment: Once a week after school from 2 - 4.30 pm. Students choose Monday, Wednesday, OR Thursday.

Program Dates: October/November 2021- May 2023
