Please handle all pelts with care.
Pelts are stored in the Biofact Museum, either in garment bags or in drawers.
All pelts have barcodes and labels on the outside of their storage packaging.
Pelts should be checked out/in using ResourceMate. If the barcode scanner does not work, you can type the ZA number.
Lay pelt down on a flat, relatively clean surface with the fur facing down.
Place the noodle across one end of the hide - for full pelts, place noodle at the head/neck end.
Gently fold in any limbs that extend beyond the ends of the pool noodle, as well as the tail.
Carefully roll the pelt around the pool noodle. Do not wrap too tightly.
Place the rolled up pelt across the bottom of its labeled bag.
For smaller items, place rolled up pelts flush with one bottom corner of the bag and fold the bag lengthwise to align with the pool noodle.
Carefully roll up the pelt in the bag - there are labels on each side of the bag, so it does not matter which side is out/in.
Place a strap under each end of the bag with the smooth side of the strap touching the bag.
Gently adjust the straps to be just tight enough to not slide off.
To adjust the strap, pull the loose end through the metal buckle, then turn the loose end over so the velcro can attach to itself.
Do not wrap too tightly.
Return the pelt to the appropriate drawer - refer to orange sticker on the label.
