Positive Behavior Intervention Support

CCPS is a PBIS District.

Each school is encouraged to have its own PBIS Team

School-wide PBIS is an evidenced-based three-tiered framework to improve and integrate data, systems and practices, affecting student outcomes every day in the areas of social, emotional and behavioral functioning.

PBIS is not: A packaged curriculum, abandonment of discipline, bribery for good behavior, ignoring inappropriate behavior or a quick fix!

Essential PBIS classroom practices outlined in the research that have been linked to positive outcomes for ALL students:

  • Maximize Structure

  • Teach Expectations and Rules

  • Actively Engage Students

  • Acknowledge Appropriate Behavior

  • Responding to Inappropriate Behavior

Specifically, PBIS implemented school-wide is associated with the following outcomes:

  • Improved academic performance

  • Reduced bullying behaviors

  • Improved social-emotional competence

  • Improved social and academic outcomes for students with disabilities

  • Decreased rates of student-reported drug and alcohol abuse

  • Reduced office discipline referrals, suspensions, and incidents of restraint and seclusion

  • Improved teacher outcomes, including perception of teacher efficacy; school organizational health and school climate, and perception of school safety
