EDIS

"EDIS helps K12 teams achieve their mission of helping students succeed by giving them the data insights and the tools to productively take action - all in one place." - EDIS

EDIS is a computer-based program that Charlotte County Public Schools currently uses to analyze, communicate, store, and track student data. Interventions are also documented and tracked within the EDIS system.

Early Warning Signs Reports

Early Warning signs are indicators that a student may be less likely to graduate from high school or to graduate on time. These indicators were identified through research and include areas such as attendance, behavior, course failures, GPA, etc...

Districts are required by law to review Early Warning Sign data for grades K-8, to identify students in need, and to implement interventions for students who have two or more early warning signs indicated. Charlotte County Public Schools follows best practices and continues this process through 12th grade.

Early Warning Sign reports can be found in EDIS under Custom Reports or within grade-level data stories. Links are also attached below.

Data Stories

A Data Story is a compilation of data and text that presents in a document-like format. Data stories are created by the district-based staff. The MTSS Data stories provide a one-stop-shop for MTSS information. Teachers and staff are highly encouraged to use the MTSS data stories as they contain the most up-to-date custom assessments, forms, and procedures. Additional data stories have also been created for areas such as most commonly used interventions and progress monitoring tools. Some of the most frequently used data stories are linked below as well as a quick guide video to help navigate the data stories.

Student Profile

Every student enrolled in Charlotte County Public Schools has a student profile in EDIS. This profile is often thought of as an electronic cumulative file and includes the following information: academic, attendance, behavior, enrollment, global indicators, MTSS forms, interventions, and much more.

You can access your student's profile by typing their name in the search bar in the upper left hand corner of the page.

  • Academic: This area gives you a quick look at a student schedule and current grades. Grades are pulled from FOCUS and are in real-time. Current and historical state and district assessments can be found under Test Scores / Misc. Data (e.g. STAR, iReady, FSA, etc...). Lastly, custom assessment data can be found in table form as well as graphically represented. Additional comparison data can be added to the graphs by simply clicking on the gray areas at the top of each graph (e.g. target, students, school, etc...).

  • Attendance: This area gives you a quick look at both current and historical attendance records for students.

  • Behavior: This area provides information on the number of Office Discipline Referrals and is broken down by year as well as month.

  • Forms: This tab includes forms that have been completed for MTSS on a student while attending Charlotte County Public Schools. Forms can be viewed, edited, and printed.

  • Interventions: This tab includes both active and inactive interventions. Inactive interventions are those interventions that were previously implemented but have since expired. Active interventions are those currently in place for the student. Interventions can be viewed by clicking on the three vertical dots next to the intervention.

  • Enrollment: This information is located under the “More” tab and includes the student’s enrollment over the last three school years. Only Charlotte County Public Schools enrollment is shown on this tab.

Interventions

Interventions can be documented in EDIS for individuals or groups. Charlotte County schools have created a bank of research and/or evidence-based interventions. These interventions are referred to as Blueprints and can be used as outlines for student interventions. Teachers and staff also have the ability to create their own interventions from scratch if they are unable to find a blueprint that meets their needs. Interventions can also be copied from year to year. Multiple students are able to be attached to the same intervention at one time.

Blueprints: This is a bank of interventions (grades K-12) that was developed by the district for use in the schools. These interventions have been identified as being research and/or evidence-based. Blueprints can only be developed by a small group of people on the MTSS District Core Team. Teachers are highly encouraged to use Blueprints as they have already been vetted as being acceptable for MTSS purposes and for eligibility decision making when needed.

Templates: Templates can be developed by any staff member. They are similar to blueprints but include a custom assessment that is used for progress monitoring. It is important to note that due to Templates being developed by any staff member in the district, teachers who use or copy them are responsible for ensuring that these template interventions are research and/or evidence-based.

Interventions: Interventions take things one step further than the templates and are individualized to meet the needs of the student(s) that they are being implemented for. Interventions allow you to link specific students directly as well as to set start and end dates. Interventions are also documented on/linked to the student profile. Similar to templates, teachers are responsible for ensuring that these interventions are research and/or evidence-based when they decide to use them for their students.

Custom Assessments

Custom Assessments allow teachers and staff to document progress monitoring data. This data is then automatically generated into a graph that will provide comparisons to the target, class, school, district, and an additional filter (if desired).

The Charlotte County School District has created Custom Assessments for district teachers and staff to use that align with end-of-year expectations at the elementary level. These Custom Assessments are updated yearly and the school year is denoted at the beginning of the naming convention (e.g. “2122” = 2021 / 2022 school year). Additional custom assessments can also be created by teachers and staff if they wish to monitor other data that does not fall under the district-created custom assessments.

QUICK GUIDE for Creating Custom Assessments

Custom Reports

Custom reports can be created by teachers and staff using any data that exists within the EDIS system. Once created, the information can be sorted and filtered. It can also be exported to EXCEL to produce spreadsheets for further analysis.

Forms

EDIS offers users the ability to create forms from scratch to meet district needs. Charlotte County schools have created MTSS forms within the EDIS platform. These forms may be viewed, edited, and stored within the system. Forms can also be printed for records or to share with parents or others involved in a particular student case. It is imperative that you link to the forms within Data Stories as these are the most current. (i.e. Do not start in Forms).

EDIS for parents

EDIS offers a parent, staff, and student portal. The parent portal allows parents to view their child's student profile, which contains information about attendance, behavior, district/state assessment scores, early warning signs, grades, interventions, and much more. Below is a list of directions to access the parent portal:
