MAPS Room
Written by Kat Smith
The MAPs room was a new edition to Yough last year in February 2024. MAPS stands for "maximizing all potentials." It is run through the University of Pittsburgh and was established in 1984. The MAPS program is in 8 different school districts throughout Allegheny and Westmoreland County. Over 15,000 students have reached out across the two counties. It is a research based public service and training program. The program is funded by the drug and alcohol administration. The program can help with anxiety, avoiding drug use, and coping skills. Their services are student services, small/large group, consulting, professional development, curriculum development, surveys, community events, and program evaluations. The MAPS room helps with social and emotional skills and will work with students' families. This is a great place to destress. Research has proven that the tie to student and staff relationships makes it a positive environment. MAPS is an added level of support from the guidance counselors. The person who runs MAPS for Yough is Celina Cantini. The room number is 213 and she is here on days four, five, and six. If you would like to schedule a meeting with her you can reach out to the guidance office. Teachers and parents can as well.
