How can I use the credit for further study - recognition of prior learning (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows students who plan to enrol on an award-bearing taught programme of study at the University of York to claim the ‘credit’ for previous learning towards the programme they are applying for. The previous learning must be relevant to the programme for which they are applying, and if their application is successful, the credit will count towards the award for their chosen programme of study.

For more information, please visit the Recognition of Prior Learning website.

How can I use the credit from the freestanding module I have undertaken?

Once you have successfully completed and passed your module you will be awarded the credit for that module. You will receive an academic transcript confirming the award after the module results have been ratified at a Board of Examiners meeting.

You can apply to accredit freestanding credit at level 7 obtained in this Department towards a Masters programme. However the credit must be at the appropriate level and meet the University criteria for accreditation. In brief:

You may also be able to use your award of credit for accreditation at another institution; however you will need to check the institution’s own RPL rules as these differ from institution to institution. This University is unable to advise on another University’s rules.

Please note that how credit can be used towards an award at this University will be subject to meeting the RPL rules in place at the time of application, the rules may be subject to change in the future.
