If you are in or intend to enter a SHSM program, please make sure you have planned in advance which courses you will take to satisfy the requirements (4 Major, 3 Other, 2 Co-op) and when you will take them. Plan backwards from grade 12 to make sure you are taking the proper prerequisites. See information below to inform your selections.
General Advice:
consider taking summer school, but note that some courses are not typically offered in summer school
some grade 11 courses can be taken in grade 10. These will count toward your SHSM requirements if they are on the SHSM course list.
Specific Advice:

Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) is a Ministry-approved and funded program for Grade 11 and 12 students. Students get the opportunity to focus on a career path to match their skills and interests in Health and Wellness. Students will build an enhanced resume of experiences and become better prepared for post-secondary studies and future careers.
Students can apply for a SHSM at any time beginning in January of grade 10. It is not permitted to be registered in more than one SHSM at a time. It is not recommended that students attempt to pursue both a SHSM and the IB Diploma at the same time.
For the two St. Robert-based SHSM programs, there is a Pre-SHSM program. Students may join the Pre-SHSM program for their chosen SHSM anytime after they enter grade 9.

Aviation and Aerospace Pre-SHSM, send to jeanne.buckley@ycdsbk12.ca
Please have a parent or guardian submit your application to srh.guidance@ycdsb.ca . You must be in grade 10 or higher to be accepted into the full SHSM (as it is a two year grade 11 and 12 program). If you are in grade 9, see information about the Pre-SHSM (above).
