Course Selection for Next School Year
It’s the time of year again for course selection! The Student Services department cannot overemphasize the value of taking the Grade 9, 10 or 11 Learning Strategies courses for students who are accessing Core Resource Support. These courses not only focus on the development of valuable learning skills including self-advocacy skills for both secondary school and beyond, but in the semester the course is being taken, students have a daily opportunity to check in and plan for support and guidance.
Please see the course descriptions below and if you have any questions, please reach out to your/your child’s Core Resource Teacher.
The Learning Strategies courses (GLE) are designed for learners identified with a Learning Disability. In small classes, students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) learn skills and strategies that best support their learning style and then apply these skills and strategies to all other courses. Students are provided a broad range of opportunities to demonstrate their understanding of the curriculum and to work on assigned tasks independently, one-on-one with their teacher and collaboratively in small groups. Students will learn how to develop and apply literacy and numeracy skills, personal management skills, and interpersonal and teamwork skills to improve their learning and achievement in school, the workplace, and the community. This course helps students build confidence and motivation to pursue opportunities for success in secondary school and beyond.
Students will develop their God-given gifts involving skill development. They will develop and reinforce these skills in collaboration with their peers. Students will work with their peers in a respectful, sensitive manner reflecting the gospel message.
