To determine where values change when light moves over an uneven surface by using a range of gray values to paint a realistic self-portrait;
To become familiar with the structure of the face by painting a realistic self-portrait.
To effectively communicate an image that looks like you through careful examination of the values of your face

Reflection
I think the key factors for painting a realistic portrait is to make sure your values are correct and that you don’t get to light or too dark to quickly. You have to make sure you are staying true to your numbering that you did before painting.
I feel good about my portrait and the amount of time I put into it. I think the most important part is the amount of different shapes and shades you use the more shapes with different shades you have will make it more realistic. And make sure that colors aren’t blending into each other and taking away from your details.
I learned that it makes a really big difference and helps define shapes and makes them look more 3d. I would compare this to the still life drawing in the way that you have to define your shapes without an outline and you have to do that by contrasting.
