Purpose:
I was intrigued by the gradient tool because it is an interesting way to incorporate both pictures into a whole. It was a way to add transparency to a photo so you could mix two pictures into one. For example the eye pictures I used it in, specifically the one with the clouds in the pupils of the eyes, gave the eyes a nice glossy look. Which adds a whole new dimension to the picture. It was also a nice way to give the green eye a forestry look. The trees combined with the green eyeshadow and green pupil was a way of showing a dark and gloomy forest without actually using a picture of a forest on a blustery day.
2. What are the three most important things that you learned from doing this assignment (this should be different from your answer above)? Please explain why they are important.
I think working past a mental block is really important. I struggles a lot with coming up with ideas on how to make my photoshop products unique. If you have no idea's, I would suggest just playing around with photoshop until you come up with an idea. Another important idea is to try something even if you think it wont look good, the worse that can happen is you get practice with different tools in photoshop. Lastly, I learned how to make the subject of a picture pop, with the use of color. Making the background black and white provides an emphasis on the subject and makes it hard for the audience to take their eyes off the subject.
