One of my goals was to be able to understand more of the technical aspects of photography. Learning about color schemes has helped me look at photography in a different way - instead of simply taking photos of things that catch my eye, I am able to understand why they stand out. For example, the photo on the left is successful because the bright orange rock contrasts with the blue sky, as they are complementary colors (opposite each other on the color wheel). The photo strategies assignments we did also helped me know what makes a successful photograph. I will definitely continue to use framing, leading lines, unusual perspective, and everything else I've learned in my everyday life.
Nature is my biggest inspiration for taking photos- all the different colors, textures, and shapes are unique to each place I visit. I also tend to take photos whenever I see something I'm not used to seeing, like a new location or building. In this class, I am hoping to learn more about what makes a photo catch your eye. What colors go well together, what shapes attract attention, and how to frame an image to make it unique and interesting. I enjoy taking photos, but I have very little knowledge of the art behind it and would love to explore it more.
