Reflection:
Throwing was one of the hardest things I learned this year, and this project took that learning a step further by having me throw smaller and more challenging pieces. The tea strainer had a square rim, which took multiple attempts to get right. It was easy to leave too much clay near the top of the piece and have it uncenter as a tried to shape it. One moment of success happened when I was throwing the small plate for the strainer to sit on. Since I used such a small amount of clay, it had a hard time adhering to the wheel and became uncentered with very little force. But after a few tries, I was able to get the shape and size that I wanted. I could take this further by trying different rim styles and shapes on the strainer to figure out which is the easiest and most effective to throw.
