To promote positive role models in the lives of students
To empower students to stand up for what they believe is right
To create a personal work of art based on students’ interpretation of an Unsung Heros’ character and actions;
To reflect on your experiences by writing an impact paper that articulates your personal journey and interprets their work for the viewer.
The reason that I was inspired to do an art piece on Hiawatha is because I take an interest in the culture and history of the native people of America. Particularly the Iroquois people. I wanted to take this experience and let it help me learn about the culture that I love leaning about. Secondly Hiawatha was a peace maker, in this day and age nothing would be better. The tribes that he brought together were as interesting as he was, the mohawk tribe known for their food and agriculture, to the Seneca known for their diplomacy. It was a fun research project as much as it was an art project. I also felt it important to tell the stories
Because we as Americans are using their land and it is the bare minimum to understand where that land came from.
I made my art work to show not the person but the more importantly the thing that he created and lasts on. Hiawatha united the 5, later to be 6, tribes in the upstate part of New York and lower parts of Ontario. The tribes in question are the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, and the Seneca. People from the 5 tribes are surrounding Hiawatha in the middle of the hill, that is because Hiawatha united the 5 tribes.
