Purpose:
To use the correct facial proportions to draw yourself as accurately as you can;
To draw the individual features, eyes, nose, mouth in a convincing 3D way;
To use charcoal and a stomp to show value changes and dimension.
Reflection:
Throughout working on this project, I was able to independently identify new concepts. First, while working on this piece, especially while drawing the hair, I relized how important sharp and clean pencils were. While drawing singular strands of hair, having an especially sharp pencil was essential to making it look realistic. This project also helped me to experiment with using 6B charcoal pencils, which showed me the importance of contrast between dark and light values while drawing in realism. Third, this project brought the importance of time management to my attention. This project took me a lot longer than expected, and I spent lots of hours outside of class working on it. I believe that all of the time I spend on this project was worth it because I am proud of the final result of this drawing. This make me realize that well developed realistic drawings take lots of time and attention.Â
Additionally, while working on this piece, on multiple instances, I received constructive feedback from my peers and teacher. This feedback was the most helpful in seeing my piece as a whole. I found that stepping back with my peers and observing my piece was beneficial for being able to identify any errors in the shape and size of proportionate facial features. Additionally My teacher was essential in helping me notice where darker values were needed to make my drawing look more 3 dimensional.
