Final Reflection:
I am the most proud of my observational hand drawing because I think it’s one of the most realistic drawings I've ever made. While working on this project, I spent a lot of extra time outside of class making sure I was content with every piece of the drawing. I tended to focus on all of the small details like the creases in the hand, while at the same time making sure the overall piece looked cohesive and finished. After completing this project, I adapted the mindset to push myself to finish my work even when it's in the developing stages.
While creating my observational drawing and push/pull sculpture I was definitely pushed outside of my comfort zone, although I surprised myself by enjoying both of them. During both of these projects I learned how to use positive and negative space/values, and working on these has helped me to not shy away from using darker values. After completing these projects I began to notice how shapes in the world create negative space, and how might I be able to capture it. Whether that would be in a picture, drawing, or sculpture. This along with all of the other skills I’ve accumulated throughout this class has helped me to become a better artist and step outside of my comfort zone.
I make art whenever I have an idea that I'm eager to try. I like to draw things that have somber undertones, because when people look at it for the first time, they tend to feel strong emotions, and being able to do that through art is very powerful. I hope I can improve on working with more color. I hope we can work with graphite, charcoal, and colored pencils.
