Starting at the top of my drawing, I included a saying that reads: “This too shall pass”. My Poppie and my Aunt both say this phrase often. It sums up that every moment in life is fleeting; the good and the bad. Meaning - that in the case of bad times - it will not last forever. And in the case of good times, you must cherish each and every moment. This is one of my favorite phrases, because I align with the outlook that it describes, and because it reminds me of my family. Secondly, below the writing, I drew a large brain. This is symbolic of my love for learning, and thinking. I enjoy learning new things no matter what subject it is. And outside of school, one of my favorite pastimes is to think. I love to sit and look out windows or in my backyard and just let my mind wander without constraints. Third, I included silhouette butterflies to the right of the brain. I chose to position the butterflies on the outside of the drawing closest to the edge of my face, because a favorite animal is often an icebreaker question that is surface level, something that might be asked of a group of strangers. And butterflies are my favorite animal. Fourth, going across the drawing is a line of sheet music. I have always loved music in every form. I enjoy listening to music
and playing violin, guitar, and piano. The specific section that I drew is the beginning of the violin score for the piece Je te Laisserai de Mots by Patrick Watson. This is a very simple and slow song, but is one of my favorites to play on the Violin. Fifth, the line of sheet music is shown twisting into a river. In every house I have lived in growing up there has been a river or a brook in the backyard. Rivers remind me of when I was younger either working in the yard with my parents, playing with my siblings, or taking my dog on walks. Sixth, I drew a large willow tree. One reason I included this was to symbolize my love for nature and its beauty. Additionally in the future I would love to have a willow tree, as I think that they are very beautiful. Seventh, in the center of my drawing I included a landscape with mountains to symbolize my love for winter sports, especially alpine skiing and snowboarding. This landscape is set at nighttime, because I consider myself a night owl. I love staying up late into the night, because I find it much more calm and quiet. This landscape also includes a large body of water that is intended to be a lake. I included a lake because every summer my extended family visits my Poppie’s house on sebago lake. I have many fond memories of spending time at the lake. Tenth, at the bottom of the piece, there is a cityscape. It is my dream to live in a city. Compared to a small town like Yarmouth, the concept of living in a city intrigues me as there is so much more going on and there are so many more opportunities. Eleventh, to the direct right of the buildings in the city, there are three books. Two of the books have the titles of books that I have enjoyed reading, but I drew them to symbolize books in general and how I like to read on occasion. Twelfth, I drew a person sitting under the willow tree playing guitar. This reiterates my love for music, but highlights a guitar. Guitar is by far my favorite instrument that I play, because it is a very simple instrument to play and is less technical than violin or piano, making it more relaxing and enjoyable to play.
