Selfie Culture: Icons in Jersey
The beginning of this process began with researching pop artists and their work so that we could get an idea of what pop art was and how it is made. Then, we took selfies and pictures of an object, which I chose to be a basketball jersey because basketball is a big part of my life. Then I uploaded the pictures onto Photoshop. I started by creating 4 different layers of the pictures so that I could add unique filters and backgrounds to each one so that they all look different and creative. My next step was to use the quick selection tool to isolate the part of the photograph that I wanted to keep for the editing process. After I did this, I purged the projects, which cleared certain cached data and freed up some memory on the file, which improved the performance of Photoshop. My next step was to use quick mask mode to eliminate the background of my selfie, and jersey, which gave me room to add filters. I then moved into the process of adding color and “pop” to my photographs by playing with different filters and backgrounds that I thought looked cool and brought out the beauty of the pictures. I am most proud of my ability to use different filters that turned my photographs into true art. My favorite one that I used was the stained glass filter, which made the photo look like the glass murals you see in churches. I had never used Photoshop before taking this class, and I am very glad I did because I now know how to use Photoshop effectively to make my photos even better and more unique. I think learning about combining photos with the kind of art that I am used to, really opened my eyes to the ways photos can be manipulated and enhanced, which I find very interesting.
