Molly's Ceramics I Portfolio
Spring 2023
Spring 2023
I am most proud of my mug. I really like the fact that it is telling a story and such a great memory. I really like the underwater aspect. I think the way i put the dolphins on was really cool and that is probably my favorite part. I also made the sailboats realistic to the actually boat I was on by carving the name of the boat into the clay.
I think the pinch pot assignment was super helpful. It tought me the basics and really showed me how deeply ceramics impacts peoples daily lives.
I think I met my goals fairly well. I definitely had a rough spot where I turned in some stuff late but, for the most part I did pretty well. I think what I said about the freedom you have with ceramics was very true. We had freedom with atelast parts of every project, even with the criteria we had to meet.
I think a similarity that ceramics has with other forms of art is that you can be very creative and you kind of have freedom of what you do and make. I think ceramics is also very different from other forms of art like, drawing or painting. To make ceramics, you often use clay. The clay is often fired in a kilm which, makes the pieces of artwork a lot more durable than other forms of art. Ceramics doesn’t really have any boundaries of what you could make with clay which also makes it differ compared to other forms of art. I think somethings I can do this semester to make myself more organized is keep track of work better. For example, set reminders or make sticky notes of the work I have to do. I think some things that will inspire me is just taking more note of my surroundings and looking at patterns and colors of objects. I think if I just pay more attention then I could get easily inspired by details in objects. I think it would be fun to make some pots or something like that this semester. Eventually, if possible, I think it would be fun to get on the wheels.
