I learned a lot of techniques to making pinch pots. My first pinch pot that I had made was a big fail. I worked the clay way too fast and it became all cracky and dry. I needed to learn to take more time and to work slower and more carefully. If I had to teach someone a good technique to making pinch pots, it would be to take a damp sponge when you are done and go around the rim and make everything all smooth and evenly thick.
It is important to have contrast with your glazes because that’s what adds the cool designs and adds interesting aspects to the pinch pots. For one of my pinch pots I chose to do a dark navy blue and then transparent pearl on top of the blue on the inside.
If I were to make another pinch pot then I would probably make on in the shape of a triangle. For glazing, I think a blue and yellow would look very cool. I think it would also look super cool if it was blue on the out side and then on the rim the yellow would have this dripping effect onto the blue.
