Essential Question: What are the necessary skills to create a convincing still life drawing?
Purpose:
To create a still-life drawing that demonstrates understanding of angles & ellipses in perspective, along with using a chosen and conscious mark-making technique to describe form;
To understand value by creating a good range of values between black & white to help make the objects appear 3D;
To demonstrate quality craftsmanship and good composition skills in a drawing.
Artists Studied: Henry Moore, Giorgio Morandi, Kerry James Marshall, Vincent van Gogh, Winslow Homer, John Whalley
Reflection:
I chose to do stippling for my mark-making technique. None of the artist we studied focused on stippling. I chose to do stippling because I loved how it look on the paper and how it added so much more detail than the other types did. Stippling helped me add the 3D shape to the objects and it worked very well with shading and adding value.
There are a ton of differences between the two of my drawings. I think the biggest improvement between the two is the proportion and how the actual objects look. In the beginning of the unit I had no clue what I was doing. I was also rushing and not really understanding of caring on how my drawing looked. When I look at my final drawing it looks so much better. My attention to detail was so much better. I think the biggest takeaway of this unit is to take my time and to not rush.
