Purpose: Create a multiple-sided, lidded box / house out of slabs. Combine two ideas from a mind mapping exercise to tie together all parts of the piece.
Reflection:
I combined water and Earth. I put water into it by making the entire thing under the ocean with fish swimming all around the box. To show the Earth component, I had sea grass go up the connecting points of the box and had seaweed wrap around the entire thing. On the lid, I made it blue and shaped a dolphin out of clay and attached it to the lid.
I used the analogous color scheme with the colors blue, yellow, and green. I think it worked really well with my box because I had a lot of water grass that needed to be there so, being able to work in different shades of blues and greens was super nice. I also had the fish that were all over the box that had to be glazed so having that warm color that I could create different shades with was super nice.
I really wanted to make sure that my box stayed together so I took lots of precautions. When I was connecting the edges together I used slip and roughed up the edges to make sure they would fit as seemly as possible. I do have a couple cracks so, I think I would just take more time to make sure everything is smooth and not rush to get it in the kiln.
