During this project, I learned a lot about clay construction and how much technique goes into it. It took me a couple of trys to make the bird and I learned a lot from those attempts. I learned that you have to work very slowly with clay. When I was molding it, it would get very cracky because I was working with it too fast. I also learned that once you start building something you can’t really crush it and start over. I did that a couple times and it made it super dry to the point where I just totally had to scratch it and start over.
I learned a lot about glazing while during both of these assignments. For the bird, I learned how to do an underglaze. That is super important because I think almost every glaze color looks super cool under clear colors like transparent pearl. I also learned with the bird and tray how glazes look on top of detail. Overall, I think this exercise was super beneficial to learn and practice underglazes and regular glazes.
