Something new about ceramics that I have learned from reading ‘Ceramics Monthly’ would be that artists almost never have “typical days” in the studio. They’re schedule changes based on the project they’re working on at the time. A lot of their days look like throwing, trimming, painting, etc. Basically just getting their hands dirty and messing with clay. Although they spend a lot of their time hands-on, they also reserve time for studio visits, planning with clients, or just coordinating future projects. All of these require thinking and brainstorming, which ceramic artists also have to reserve time for. To summarize, artists almost never have days that are exactly the same. That means they can’t expect for their day to look exactly like the previous one.
In my opinion, I think it would be interesting to experience different days all of the time. But I could understand where someone would be coming from if they said they wanted a schedulaized day. It probably could get very chaotic not having a schedule for their days, but it would also mean they are not focused on the same things every single day. I really like how they make time to incorporate time for new ideas and what they can work on for their next project. It definitely helps with development in their projects and gets their brain flowing with new ideas. These non-set schedules could probably have both pros and cons, but I think it would be very interesting to experience a day of a ceramic artist.
