Purpose: Create a multiple-sided, lidded box / house out of slabs. Combine two ideas from a mind mapping exercise to tie together all parts of the piece.
Reflection:
I tied my love of daisies and the feeling of my feet feeling the grass in the first few weeks of summer. Daisies are my favorite flower, so when I chose to do a floral theme for my box, I knew I had to tie it to daisies in some way. The grass is represented all around the outside of my box and is very sentimental to my love for summer. Something I did to tie the sides and top together was the overlapping of flowers. On the sides, you can see that there are 9 flowers in all. I included a flower on the top of my box as well. I made the bud on the flower on the top of my box stick out more, so I could pick up the lid when needed. I made the flowers on the sides of my box wrap around, which makes the viewer want to look around the entire box. I made sure every side had at least one flower wrapping around, which adds detail and interest. I used an analogous color scheme. Personally, I think that this was the best choice for my box. My main colors were yellow and green. Yellow being the bud of the flower, and green is the entire background of my box. These two colors worked really well together and are especially pleasing to the eye. For my petals, I stuck with white. I did this because I like the look of simplicity on my pieces of art. I believe that even though white is a basic color, it made the rest of the box pop. Something I did to make my box stay together was smooth it out during the process of making it. I made sure my box was smooth before adding on the petals. I first took the sides of the box and attached it to the base. I then smoothed it out, which ensured that it would stay together. I used water to make sure the rest of the box seemed as smooth as possible while continuing to add details.

Extra Credit Work:
I found these pieces interesting because of the detail and color usage. I really like the vibrant colors used and I think it makes all of the houses pop. I can tell the artist spent a lot of time on these houses because of the small windows and doors that are shown. They all look like they have so much effort put into them which is crucial for this type of assignment. If I had done a house, I would definitely have wanted to add a lot of windows and a place to put in a candle. I think that the light that would shine out of the windows would be so beautiful.
