What project are you most proud of? How did this impact your learning? Throughout Ceramics 2, I have been very proud of the majority of my work. But I am absolutely in love with my bowl set. I love the colors I used and the design I created. I know that I worked extremely hard on this project and I feel that it turned out really well. I think I connected all of my bowls in a creative way, which I’m very proud of.
What are the two most informative projects we've done this year? One of the most informative projects we did this semester would be the raku project. I really enjoyed learning about the different types of clay and the firing process used. It was a lot of fun traveling to Portland and gaining experience at Portland Pottery. When we dipped our pieces into the special glazes, it gave our entire class experience something we hadn’t tried before. Another project I learned a lot from was the inspired speaker project. I thought it was cool to think about how different shapes and setups of clay can change the sound dramatically. It was fun learning about the different ways we can create a speaker out of clay, and then executing that idea.
How well did I meet my goals for the semester? One of my goals for the semester was to pay attention to detail more often in my projects. I think that I did exceed this goal and strengthened my knowledge of it. I spent more time and effort on all of my projects and made sure that they not only met standards but exceeded them. This helped me out in the long run because I realized that paying attention to detail made my pieces 10x better and more interesting.
What ceramics project are you the most proud of making in a past class? Why?
I am most proud of the Pueblo Coil Pot we did in the spring. I believe this was my best piece because of the amount of time and effort I put into it. I really enjoyed the carving and how satisfying it was to put in the details. I also love the color I chose to glaze my Pueblo Pot.
Artists find inspiration from many different places, experiences, beliefs, artists, etc. What activities, beliefs, causes, etc, are currently important to you and might currently influence YOU in your ceramic work?
One thing that influenced my ceramic work would be the mood that I would be in at that moment. Depending on my mood, my motivation for ceramics would be different.
As you move forward with your ceramics education, what skills and/or techniques do you hope to develop and/or strengthen?
I hope that I can strengthen my attention to detail. I think it is critical to take your time in ceramics and make it your best work possible, so I would like to make my attention to detail much more sophisticated.
List one (or more) ceramic objects or processes you think would be very fun or interesting to make, see, or do this semester.
I am not fully sure whether this is ceramics 2 or 3, but I have seen multiple speakers that have been made out of clay which seems like such a fun project to work on!
