Where does Raku originate from?
It was inspired by traditional Japanese raku firing.
What IS Raku? What is the basic process of a Raku firing?
Raku firing is when you remove pottery from the kiln when it reaches a bright red heat. You then place it into containers with combustible materials.
What is the danger to your clay during a Raku firing (there may be more than one answer to this…)
The clay you use must be able to cope with the thermal stress it will be put under in the kiln. You also have to choose the right glaze to make sure that the properties react well.
What is the danger to the people firing a Raku kiln?
When raku firing, there is a lot of smoke that is bound to be released from the kiln. This could be very unhealthy for your body.

What I found interesting about this piece is the designs. I really like how the carved part looks like a bright red while the other parts of the clay are a contrasting blue. It adds a lot of detail to the piece! I also really enjoy how both of these pieces have similarities, but they are overall the opposite of the other. The left piece has blue carvings with a red background while the right one has the direct opposite.

This is such a cool piece! First of all, the design of the woman is so intricate and detailed which shows the amount of time put into it. Second, I love the idea she had about the bottom of the dress. It looks so interesting and I wonder how she made it look so soft and smooth.

All of these pieces are so interesting to look at. I love the mountain landscape he decided to carry out. It looks so defined and it seems like it took a lot of attention-to-detail. The colors also stood out to me because of how vibrant they were!
