Day 22: 20/12/2023
The interesting thing about this is that I did not feel tired when I woke up and I'm grateful for that.
In the first and second periods I had Sport, where we played "Matabolets" again but this time in the traditional way and curiously I liked the way of playing last Monday better. Then we made teams and played soccer for the rest of class. I played about 15 minutes in total and I honestly had a pretty good time.
Then we didn't have our Spanish class since they were taking an exam and the teacher didn't need our help (obviously) so Andrea and I took the opportunity to go to a cafe. The first stop we made was at a supermarket so Andrea could change money from the card to cash but she couldn't since her card is not valid.
Then we went to the cafe, I didn't have anything because I didn't feel like it much but I accompanied Andrea and helped her a little with her second cake that she had ordered because she couldn't take it anymore.
To finish, I had my last Latin class where I didn't do much either because they presented their projects by group. The truth is that it was quite interesting and my friend Lena translated many things for me.
After high school Jula and I had the idea of going ice skating but in the end we couldn't since there was an accident on the trains and we couldn't get to our destination any other way. In the end we went for a walk to buy Christmas things and things for ourselves.
I saw some very pretty earrings that I could give to my mother but in the end I didn't take them because I wasn't completely determined. What I did buy were some second-hand ankle boots that I had wanted for a long time and since I saw them in such good condition and at a very good price I decided to get them for myself as my own Christmas gift.
We returned home quite late but the good thing is that we were going to a dinner where a friend of Jula's, who had invited us with her Spanish classmates. I had a great time, I talked a lot and I also ate very well. I met Sonia, Olga's daughter (the Spanish teacher at Limmer Gymnasium), and I really liked her because she was super nice and super open. We talked about a lot of things and I felt very good. Although at first I was a little embarrassed, in the end everything went very well.
I had some grilled prawns for dinner that were delicious, some bravas, olives, and also Serrano ham and chicken croquettes. We divided the cost between the four of us, Jula, Paula, Sonia and I and the truth is that I felt really satisfied. One funny thing that happened to us was that we saw a plate of patatas bravas at the end of a table that no one was eating and they told me to go get them, but with one condition, to speak in a Colombian accent since there was a guy from Chile and we wanted to make a little joke. In the end it went very well, we got the potatoes and I ended up talking to the guy from Chile with the Colombian accent and he didn't notice that I was Spanish.
Then I returned home alone, since Jula was going to visit Masha but I wasn't too afraid since Hannover is a super safe city.
I went to sleep right away because I was very sleepy.
Day 23: 21/12/2023
Thursday was our last day of high school and the truth is that I was already very tired and looking forward to returning to Spain and seeing my family and friends.
The first two periods we had Drama and we did an activity that consisted of making a work of art in a domino effect, where some students began the action and the next students did the same thing but a little later and so on consecutively with the rest. The truth is that at first I didn't understand it much because it was all in German but in the end it was quite funny and fun.
Later I had Spanish on my own because Andrea was in mathematics and that day Nora asked me to give my presentation about my school in Barcelona, Sant Joan Despí, the educational system, etc. The truth is that those two hours were quite light since I was talking and laughing a lot with the children and answering their questions. We also talked about Christmas celebrations in Spain and they also asked me questions about them.
The last two hours were Spanish again but with Andrea too. In the first hour of Spanish we did ................................... In this class it was quite The 5-minute break was funny, because two girls got into a fight with a boy for saying a bad word to them and you can see that they throwing pencil cases in each other's faces and many other things. The truth is that it surprised me because the children are only 12 years old and that attitude is not very appropriate at their age. In the second part of the class..................
As it was my last afternoon in Hannover we tried to go ice skating again and... we succeeded!! We arrived there without any problem and I had a great time. I had never skated before but Jula and her friend Emma, who came with us, told me that I did very well. We were walking around the track, laughing and talking about everything. From time to time we stopped because our feet hurt a lot and also because there were a lot of people and sometimes it was quite easy to get overwhelmed. We were skating for two hours and my feet were bruised. My left foot especially. It was swollen and purple but I don't care because that meant it had been useful.
That day my mother came home for dinner because, since she flew to Hannover to pick up Andrea and me, she wanted to meet my family and talk to them. Jula, Yvone, a friend of Yvone's, my mother and I had dinner together. Yvone's partner was supposed to be there but she had to stay in Hamburg because the trains had been canceled due to a big storm in Northern Germany.
We had a great time and I learned how to make tacos hehe :). The dinner was honestly delicious and I ate tacos several times.
Day 24: 22/12/2023
I didn't go to school today as I had to finish my suitcase and run other errands. First, I got up early enough to be able to say goodbye to my host mum and wish her a good Christmas since she was not able to accompany me to the airport and I wanted to say goodbye to her. Then I got dressed and went out because Andrea and I had agreed to go to some stores and finish buying things we needed. When I got home, I started to pack my suitcase even though I fell asleep for half an hour because I was super tired.
Before leaving I met with Jula to say goodbye and for her to give me a gift that Olga and the director of her high school had given me. I was quite sad because I knew that I would miss Germany and Jula.
While I was packing my suitcase I found out that our flight had been canceled for the second time. At the beginning we were programmed to fly from Hannover to Munich and then land in Barcelona at 5:35 p.m. Then, those flights were canceled and they changed our itinerary to another one that was from Hannover to Frankfurt and from Frankfurt to Barcelona and we would arrive at approximately 23:15 p.m. in Barcelona. And then, to our surprise, they canceled them again. This time we had a flight from Hannover to Munich at 8pm and the next flight at 6am. This meant that we had to run to the airport to ask for a hotel for that night or we could be left stranded in the middle of the airport and they told us that we should discuss this at the Munich airport as soon as we landed there.
Our first flight departed half an hour late. When we landed in Munich, we should have gone to the Lufthansa Service Center but we had to collect our bags, which we had checked in. We sat on the floor for two hours waiting for our suitcases to come out and they never came out. The desperation became greater when we realized that people from other flights were arriving in search of their suitcase on the same conveyor belt as us, suitcases from 5 different flights were piled up on the same conveyor belt.
After two hours and a lot of suffering, we grabbed our suitcases and headed to the airline's Service Center. After going around a thousand times and asking a dozen people we found it. There were 6 people waiting to complain about what happened (flight cancellations, suitcases, hotels, etc.). We got in the line. We were waiting for about ten minutes until surprisingly the lady who was serving people decided to leave and close as if nothing was happening.
We were so hungry that we went in search of a McDonald's to have something to eat since we didn't eat anything in the entire flight, except for a chocolate bar that the airline gave us as a gift.
We had dinner and returned inside the airport where we sat in some chairs and I started to do my diary while Andrea went to sleep. I spent an hour and a half on the computer until our school principal, who was accompanying us on the trip, forced me to lie down on the floor and sleep for a while.
Day 25: 23/12/2023
At 4 in the morning, the school principal woke us up and told us that we could now check in and check our suitcases and so we did. We went to check them in and we were one of the first to do so, and thank goodness, because an impressive queue began to stay behind us.
When we were already seated at our boarding gate, we went to look and see if the Lufthansa Service Center was open. It was not open but the truth is that there was already a line of people waiting to be served. We decided not to dwell on the matter any further and look at the positive side of it. Rosa already promised us that she would make a claim and that she would try to solve what happened no matter what.
While we were waiting to board I was watching my TV show, Gossip Girl. When we were on the plane, Andrea and I were praying that no one would seat next to us and that we could stretch out to get some sleep. We did it and no one came, hehe. I slept the entire flight except when Andrea woke me up for our free water and free chocolate.
When I arrived in Barcelona, I was dead asleep. We went to get our suitcases and it didn't take long for them to get out of the belt. When we had our suitcases, we went to the Lufthansa counter to ask for an explanation on how to make a claim online and when we got the answer we went straight to the bus stop. We were very lucky because when we arrived at the stop, the bus was already coming and we didn't have to wait.
Rosa and I got off the bus a little earlier and said goodbye to Andrea, who kept on for a few more stops. When I got home, I slept a lot and I felt quite sad when I thought that this German magnificent and brilliant adventure had finished :(
