Day 1: 29/11/2023
I woke up at seven in the morning, I finished packing the few things I had left out of my suitcase and then we went to the bus stop. My mother and I had to first take a train, while my partner Andrea took a bus where we would meet at Sant Boi station. Afterwards, my mother and I got on the bus where Andrea was and the three of us headed towards the airport.
We arrived at Barcelona airport around 9:30 and then went through the security control and relaxed in the seats at our gate before the plane took off. We had to stop in Munich because there were no direct flights to Hannover on that day.
We arrived in Hannover around 5 pm and I arrived at my German house at 7 pm because the train was cancelled and I had to go by car with Andrea to the central station and then take a tram to my new home.
When I got home, my family showed me what it was like inside, the neighborhood and then we went to do a little shopping so that I would feel more comfortable and we had some delicious noddles for dinner.
The house is huge and has two floors. We could say that we live in a duplex because there are 4 more floors below mine. In my house there are 4 rooms, mine, Jula's, her mother's and another where no one sleeps. There is also a kitchen, a bathroom and an office. On the second floor there is a room that they use to be together and make plans. But now her mother and her partner are using it since they both have Covid.
Today I felt quite nervous but also very excited to start this experience. :)
Day 2: 30/11/2023
My day starts at 6.30 in the morning. Today in the morning we had to run because my host mum told me that it was better to go by public transport and not by bicycle because of the snow and the tram ran much earlier than we thought.
Upon arriving at school we met the headteacher of our high school, one of the Spanish teachers of Limmer Gymnasium and also the sports teacher. They explained our students schedule to us, and then they gave us a tour of the high school and I was very impressed because it's very big.
Then we spent the whole day until 1:25 in Spanish classes as language assistants in sixth grade, first year of ESO and children of 4th of ESO. In these lessons we helped the children with their exercises, interacting with them, etc.
In the afternoon we didn't do anything, because my host mum and her partner had COVID and my partner had to do some school work, and it was also quite cold. So we stayed at home warm. And my host mum gave me a present: an advent calendar of candies and chocolates made by herself.
Today I was also a little nervous and excited at the same time and then I became calm because I know what it will like to be here for three weeks :)
Day 3: 01/12/2023
Today I started my day at 6:15 in the morning and I went to school with one of my partner's neighbours, but it was a little awkward situation since she didn't speak and I was a little embarrassed. Afterwards we had a two-hour Spanish class and then 4 periods of English.
The first class we had was a Spanish, where there was normally a small group of students, but there were only 2 people that day. We were talking about gender violence and also about a book they were reading.
The second class we had was English with my partner's class. I had a great time because I made new friends and because the activity we did was very interesting. We had a debate about anonymous people on the internet. I didn't dare to speak, but in the next class I will try. Finally, we had another English class, but this time with a different group. Unlike the other class, I didn't like this one at all. I didn't really like the teacher we had in that class. He had very little professionalism and his class was quite boring. On the other hand, Andrea and I made a new friend, Lena, who was wonderful, and we talked about many things in general.
In the afternoon, I went with Andrea to a café because my partner had Corona and her partner was sick, so we decided to go for a walk around Hannover and we had a snack.
That I stayed at Andrea's house to sleep because the next day we were going to Hamburg together with her partner and her family.
That night at Andrea's house we had delicious pasta with a spinach sauce that, to tell the truth, was delicious. After dinner, we played a game, which was based on having to move characters to different houses as the game progressed. The beauty of this game was that we could move as many people as we wanted to advance from square to square. Let me explain: if I rolled the dice and got a 6, I could make different movements, like for example take a character and move it 6 squares or take 5 different characters and move them only one square. The goal of the game was for no one to know which character you were and for you to collect as many points as possible.
Day 4: 02/12/2023
Today Andrea and I got up at 6 in the morning, although we slept in for 20 more minutes and had to run a little. We took a train at 8 in the morning from Hannover to Hamburg, and we arrived there at 10 in the morning. In the morning we went for a walk and we saw super nice buildings like Elbphilharmonie. We went to HafenCity and it was really nice. After that, we walked around the city, and then we bought a ticket to go up to the top of 'St. Nicholai Church'. We got up almost 80 meters high and we could see all the city of Hamburg from the top. Later on, we went to the Church's museum, where we could read and hear the history of the Church and the historical story behind it. I do not really like history, but this story of the war really interested me.
Afterwards, we went to eat some hamburgers that were delicious. Although in mine there was a sauce that I didn't like at all, it was still delicious.
After eating we went for a walk through a Christmas market, we ate creps, Andrea had a hot chocolate, and we also went for a walk around the shops. We left around 5 pm and arrived in Hannover around 7 pm. We left a little early because it was very cold and it was impossible to bear, it was approximately 0 and minus 1 Celsius degrees.
When I arrived in Hannover, my partner asked me if I could sleep over at Andrea's house again because she had a fever and I didn't want to get Covid and I stayed with Andrea one more night.
Day 5: 03/12/2023
Today I got up at 10 in the morning because I was very sleepy and I took a shower at Andrea's house. I had a 2 eggs omelette for breakfast and I was so full.
After that, we went to the Hotel Priezotel, where our school principal had left an important piece of paper for me that allowed me to be in Germany without parents.
After that, I went to Jula's house and I talked with her for an hour in my bedroom about everything I did this weekend. Afterwards, I took a two and a half hour nap because I was really tired and then I ate nuggets with homemade potatoes for dinner, which were soooo delicious.
Day 6: 04/12/2023
Today I started the day by getting up at 6 in the morning since I had to catch the train at 7:15. Andrea and I arrived at the school separately but when we got together we discovered that our first class (first and second period) had been cancelled, so we went to a supermarket, we bought things we needed and we sat on some benches in the school to talk, relax, and of course, do our diary.
The second class we had was English, where they were taking a Chemistry exam and Andrea and I continued to make progress.
In the German class we also had free time because they were still taking the Chemistry exam and we continued to make progress on daily and school things.
Then I had Latin, where I was surprised that they are far behind in this subject. We had to analyze and translate a text from Latin to German or in my case into English or Spanish. I was surprised because everyone there has very little foundation and very little knowledge of Latin declensions, prepositions, conjugations, etc.
Andrea and I ate at school because we had a sports class later. I had vegan nuggets with homemade fries.
The sports class was the best class of the day by far. We did Thai Chi but Andrea and I were laughing the whole time because we didn't really understand what we had to do and it was very funny to see our classmates doing Thai Chi. Without a doubt, in this class I felt super happy and I had a great time.
When I got home my partner, Jula, told me that she did not have Covid anymore.
After that I took a little nap before Jula asked me to go to buy dinner. We had a kebab for dinner and we were talking like for hours. After that I went to sleep because I was super tired.
Day 7: 05/12/2023
Today I got up at 6 in the morning, I got ready, I had bread with salt and oil for breakfast. When I arrived at the school I met Andrea and they told us that our first class had also been cancelled, so we stayed at some tables where we continued with our diary and talking about different things. My second period had also been canceled but since Andrea didn't want to go to Maths alone and I didn't want to be alone because I would be bored, I decided to go with her to her class. The truth is that I didn't understand anything because it was all in German and because I don't like mathematics.
Then we had Music, where in the first half hour they were doing a small exam which they let us try but it didn't go very well and then they were reviewing that exam and talking about what would come up in the next exam. In that class I was a little bored because I didn't understand anything. The teacher told us that the next week we did not need to go to class because the class was canceled and also because there was an exam and it was not necessary to attend it.
Lastly, we had German, where we didn't do much because we didn't understand well what they were doing. This day was quite boring but, since I was with Andrea, I had a good time anyway.
After lunch I met Andrea to make homemade cookies at my house. We met at 5 in the afternoon but I fell asleep and the poor thing had to wait 20 minutes for my partner to realize that she was waiting for me.
We made a lot of cookies and we also talked about a lot of things. I really liked this plan because being with Andrea and being with my partner is super fun and I never get bored. We also played Spanish and German music and we were comparing them.
And when Andrea left, I continued talking witg my partner and then we watched a bit of the Gossip Girl TV show with her. I finished my day by writing the diary.
