Safety & Security

"In this place, with these people, I feel safe."

The number one priority of the staff at the Wyoming Girls School is to provide emotional, physical and psychological safety of every resident. The security department is responsible to provide concurrent support for every resident and staff on campus. Security staff are available to assist teachers, nurses and dorm staff in the management and supervision of residents. Security staff are also responsible for scheduling and providing secure transports for all residents placed at the Wyoming Girls School. Security staff also conduct perimeter searches of the grounds, room checks within all dormitories and buildings, schedule mandatory trainings for all staff and routinely monitor First Aid kits, AED’s and other material used for safety and security.

MANDT SYSTEM®

Every staff who work with the residents is trained and certified in the Relational, Conceptual and Technical chapters of the MANDT System®.   The MANDT system® is a comprehensive, integrated approach to preventing, de-escalating, and if necessary, intervening when the behavior of a resident poses a threat of harm to themselves and/or others. The MANDT System® integrates knowledge about neurobiological impact of childhood trauma with the principles of positive behavior interventions and support and provides a framework that empowers caregivers to do their work in a way that minimizes the use of coercion in behavior change methodologies.

The MANDT System® is based upon the philosophy that all people have a right to be treated with dignity and respect. The MANDT System® believes relationships should be based on principles in which people are allowed to participate in decisions about their lives. Behavior, even negative behavior, is recognized and considered as a form of communication. The MANDT System® approach to relationships with people requires that we proactively meet the needs of others striving to improve relationships by learning to avoid repeating mistakes. The technical components of the MANDT System® should only be used for the purpose of protection, and should not be used for changing behavior in situations where no protective need is present. All physical restraint should be terminated as soon as the need for protection is over.

The environment the Wyoming Girls School provide the residents is enhanced through the concepts taught in the MANDT System®.  Staff and residents can say, “In this place and with these people, I feel safe”™
