Zones of Regulation is a program designed to teach students to manage their actions and emotions leading to increased self control and better problem solving abilities. Through hands-on activities, students become aware of their level of alertness and emotions, as well as, develop strategies to adjust these levels appropriately. An added benefit to the program is that students are gaining self awareness skills and the vocabulary to be able to express their emotional state effectively.
The Blue Zone is considered the rest or re-energize zone. This is a low state of alertness. Students can feel sad, tired, bored, sick, and their brain or body can feel like it is moving slow.
The Green Zone is considered the optimal state of alertness. Students learn that green light signals they are "Good To Go!" Students can feel calm, happy, focused, and ready to learn.
The Yellow Zone is considered a zone where students are taught to be aware and take caution of things around them that may be affecting them. Students may feel frustrated, confused, worried, excited, to name a few.
The Red Zone is an extremely heightened sense of alertness. Students may feel intense emotions, such as, anger, panic, elation. This is a "stop and notice" zone giving the students an opportunity to change course.
