Gratitude is a priceless quality for our children to possess and cultivate. Studies have shown that the habit of gratefulness improves overall happiness and well being. Gratitude is a life skill that if added to a student’s “tool box” of coping skills can improve emotional wellness all through their life. Additionally, being able to express thankful feelings can decrease stress and increase feelings of belonging.
Some easy ideas to begin practicing gratitude:
Create a gratitude journal at home where children can record and reflect on the things that they are thankful for.
Use family meals as an opportunity to talk about the things everyone is thankful for.
Take time to write a thank you or verbally thank others for things they have done for you.
Be a role model. Let your kids see you thanking others and/or sharing what you are grateful for.
