Student's Page

Did you know we now have a student's page for the newsletter? The Student's Page is a great resource for students and parents who want to see more of what's happening inside the classroom. The page includes some teacher classroom blurbs and Ms. Holly's Basic Cooking recipes. Check back often as we are always adding new content and updating pages!

Is there something you would like to see on the student's page that's not there already? Email Ms. Danielle with suggestions, we cannot accommodate every request but we can check to see if it works for our page and our staff!

Writing Contest - Friday Only

We love the innovation of our students! Our Friday Cub Reporters class is running a Fiction Writing contest for their Newspaper publication, The Denver Boast. Submissions need to be in by Friday December 1st, and the first, second, and third place winners will be announced at our open house. They are allowing TWO submissions per student and this is for FRIDAY only. To find out more information for how your child can submit go to https://sites.google.com/site/hscwritingcontest2017/

Nutcracker Performance

The Littleton Youth Ballet is performing The Nutcracker Friday December 1st through Sunday December 3rd at the Joanna Ramsey Theater in Westminster. Two of our talented Lakewood kiddos will be performing! Tickets start at $20 and parking is free. For tickets you can call 303-794-6694 or go to their website https://www.littletonyouthballet.org.

Instagram Page

HSC is now officially on Instagram! Follow us to stay up to date on what we are doing in classes, as well as contests with a chance to win some cool HSC gear for your kiddo.

*In order to do the contests we need some more followers. We would love to run one before winter break as we have our prizes ready to go but we need more followers before it can happen. So like, share our page, and tag #HSC in your photos to help us spread the word!*

4-H Club

4-H is a youth organization that teaches youth learning life skills through real life situations. Youth develop these skills by participating in club community service projects, local county and state fairs, youth livestock auctions and youth markets and by completing a year-long project. They also learn leadership through state and county events such as youth fest, youth leadership council and more. For more information visit their website https://4-h.org/about/what-is-4-h/

Location Reminders

  • EVERGREEN - Our Thursday location is NUT FREE, this is not just a school requirement but a building requirement as the church deals with some pretty severe allergies throughout the week. Please avoid packing nuts in your child's lunch as much as possible.
  • ALL LOCATIONS:
    • Please remember that you have 2 options for dropping your kiddos off:

1. Park and walk them in

2. Drive up and drop them off at the door (sidewalk)

a. If you choose this option, please be respectful of those behind you - this process shouldn’t take more than a minute or two

b. If you need a few extra minutes to gather items, please park and pull through when ready or park and walk your child(ren) in.

    • LOST AND FOUND
      • Now that it's getting colder lost and found is growing. Unfortunately because we have limited space at all our locations we can only keep lost and found for a short period of time before it must be donated.
          • LAKEWOOD & WESTMINSTER - Lost and found can be found in front of Ms. Bobbi's desk during drop off and by Ms. Hayley during pick up. Please check when your picking up/dropping off your child to see if anything belongs to you!
          • EVERGREEN location, there is minimal lost and found at this location. If any comes up it is typically in the dismissal room on the table in the morning. If not there check the church's lost and found located on the right as you walk in.

October Highlights

October marks one of our favorite events of the year, Trunk or Treat! We do this event five days of the week for all our kiddos. We had a lot of memorable moments from our 15+ Trunks on Tuesday to our very snowy Evergreen day. This year we went under some rule changes to ensure the safety of our students as well as allowing them to have the optimal Trunk or Treat time. We appreciate all our parents who volunteered their time (this event is possible without you!) and were also patient and understanding as we underwent a few bumps in the road. We are confident that our next Trunk or Treat will go smoother than ever and we can't wait till next year!

September was our safety month where we discussed SRP (Standard Response Protocol) with our students. This covers anything from where to go in a fire to what to do in a lockdown. These talks can be scary and even scarier to practice. This past month we have practiced two of these types of drills on two different days and we even had a real one happen (false alarm, but unexpected nonetheless). Every day that we practiced our students did AWESOME! They remained calm, followed instructions, and were just rockstars throughout the entire drill. We will continue to practice these drills throughout the school year to ensure that we are well prepared in case an emergency ever happens. Please continue to discuss the importance of safety with your child and why we must conduct these drills.

Classroom Highlights and Reminders

  • Ms Bobbi wants to remind you to get your 5th and 6th grade Colorado Ski Country Passport this year! Visit http://coloradoski.com/passport to get yours! Let Ms. Bobbi know if you need proof of grade level.
  • Ms. Heather's STEAM class has an upcoming project that will be partially in class and and partially at home. Watch out for projects that are coming home!
  • Ms. Hayley would like to remind her Musical Theater and Play Performance students to practice memorization at home!
  • Ms. Nancy would like to remind students and parents that the date for all locations/days for the Young Ameritowne field trip is Thursday, 4/12/18, and they will be going to the Belmar facility.
  • Ms. Elona would like to remind ALL her students to please wear their tennis shoes to her class!
  • Now that its getting chillier we are seeing more abundance of jackets and therefore more opportunities for these items to get left behind. It never hurts to label your child's jacket or lunch box for that matter so they are must easier to track down when they come up missing.

Scholastic

Scholastic Book Club orders will be placed on the 15th of each month. So the next Scholastics order will go in on the 15th of each month. That still gives you 2 weeks to order. There will be a display board available at each location during the first week of each month, feel free to take the fliers you need when you drop off in the morning.

If you are new, it is easy. Just log into scholastics at https://orders.scholastic.com/LML4W

You can register each of your children under their specific grade level. You can order books on any grade level you choose. Our school code is: LML4W

Enjoy your reading!
