While our email systems do their best to spot and block spam and phishing emails, some still will get through. It is up to all of our staff stay vigilant in spotting these emails that will still make it through. Once you have spotted an email you believe is phishy, do not click on any links or images contained in the email. instead, there is a button within outlook that you can click on that will report the phishing email back to our email systems. While no system is perfect in preventing every email from getting through, this will help our systems better learn and prevent as many as possible from getting through our filtering.
If you have an email you believe is a phishing email, first click on the email to make it the active or double click it to open. Then click on the CyberNut squirrel button that is found in the top right hand corner of your Outlook. The squirrel icon can be seen in outlook on your PC here:
Or as seen as a smaller icon in OWA (Outlook Web Access) below:
Once you click the squirrel, you are brought to the following two screens. The first screen has two buttons. One button opens up a training video that walks you through how to report and email with CyberNut.
The video can be also seen at this link: https://www.loom.com/share/b1e438e936ad42e8aa4c065c8d5b82f4?sid=10e1dd3d-dded-454c-bd95-d4b9240e7dd6Â
The other button named "Report Emails" is the button you will click. Once you click the button, you'll be brought to the second screen asking some questions. Please check any boxes you may have done, and please answer them truthfully, because this let's us know if we need to investigate anything based off of your answers. Then, click the "Report Email" button.
If this was one of our phishing campaigns, you will be brought to CyberNuts website where you can earn more nuts by answering a question about that email. If the email was not our phishing campaign, you will receive the last screen thanking you for your submission.
That's all there is to it! You have successfully reported spam to our filtering helping it to better learn and protect our entire district. This will help us keep our data safe. You can also forward the email to: security@wvsd208.org.
