Today’s tech tools allow for students to record a video of their computer screens whilst simultaneously recording their audio narration - these are called screencasts! They can be used to record ‘work in progress’ (what they are doing, making, creating, designing, building etc.) or to explain / evaluate their work. Having students create screencast videos can really level-up their assessment - expanding on points, providing examples - whilst also developing their communication, critical thinking and creativity skills.
Screencastify is a free chrome extension.
What are Extensions? Extensions are installed in the browser and give you added features and abilities to customize your browser. Available at the Chrome Web Store

If you are a lover of PowerPoint you might prefer this method of recording a video directly from your PowerPoint presentation.
"Create high-quality, high-definition videos using nothing but PowerPoint. PowerPoint is the de facto standard application for creating presentations, but it's capable of much more. Go beyond bullet points and learn how to use this powerful multimedia authoring tool to make great-looking video."
***You cannot achieve this from within Office 365...open in PowerPoint on your computer first***
Below are just a few examples of the video sceencasts that I have created and used this week to explain tasks and how I would like my students to use the Google Classroom over this period of remote learning. Next week I will move on to use screencasts to teach the students about new topics, explain concepts, define terms, demo website tools etc.
*If you have an example of your own that you wouldn't mind sharing please send me the link and I will upload them here to help others on their screencast journey.* :)
