Self-Motivation - Students who can direct their own learning environment, fulfill course requirements, and achieve individual academic success.
Independent Learner - The online environment enables students to learn at their own pace -- traditional, extended, or accelerated. While students will be completing work according to their own time structure daily, each course is designed to be completed within a semester/marking period with completion percentages for each week and each student is expected to complete their coursework within that defined time frame.
Computer Literate - Although it is not necessary to have advanced computer skills, students should possess a working knowledge of email, the Internet, and keyboarding skills, and Microsoft Office and Google Suites.
Time Management - The key to learning is to commit the time to learn and establish a structured routine.
Effective Written Communication Skills- Students must use school email to communicate with their peers and instructors. The ability to write clearly and formally in order to communicate ideas and assignments is very important to student success as well as a means to inform instructors of any concerns or problems.
Personal Commitment - Students must have a strong desire to learn and achieve knowledge and skills via online courses. Making a commitment to learn in this manner is a very personal decision and requires a strong commitment to participate in order to achieve academic success
ExCEL Enrollment Information
Students experience the greatest success when they join the ExCEL Virtual Learning Academy during key transition points in the school year. The ideal time to begin ExCEL is at the very start of the school year, allowing for the smoothest possible transition.
Enrollment Timelines:
Start-of-Year Enrollment:
To begin at the start of the school year, all inquiries must be received by August 15, 2025 ~ no exceptions.
Mid-Year Enrollment:
After this date, enrollments will take place on the first and third Mondays of each month.
Please note: Students may need to wait a few weeks before officially transitioning. This is to ensure all necessary steps and supports are in place for a successful start. The process involves multiple parties and is not immediate.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we work to set students up for success.
